your thoughts on running without sense....
So I have turned off sense a few times and have noticed that there are apps and widgets that are installed on the launcher pages that I do not have when running sense. Are this some of the things that keep popping up in my system panel? and should I delete all of them so that the launcher home screens are blank? I do not plan on not running sense.

If you're going to run without Sense, I'd recommend you try either LauncherPro or ADW.Launcher as replacements. In addition to giving you landscape support on your home screens, they provide a lot of customization and other cool options.
The only real drawback is that you can't use the HTC widgets.
Here's how I have my home set up with Launcher Pro.

Hey Blubble, i am going with Launcher Pro too at the moment. What clock/weather widget is that, Fancy Widget?
This is my Launcher Pro main Home screen. I would like a small weather widget like the htc one but I haven't had any luck.

Oh and thanks for the images Blubble. I didn't realize Launcher Pro did landscape!!!Last edited by jpsamora; 06-19-2010 at 02:38 PM. Reason: Added Picture

I'm also curious as to whether or not removing sense would make the evo snappier. Like I've seen the stock android app menu scroll faster in videos than the sense one...but I don't have an evo yet to test it out

Launcher Pro looks like something I would consider... Definitely want to hear some more feedback about the speed and battery life without Sense though.

I tried turning off sense and using launcher pro. My issue was that I missed the big news and friendstream widgets enough to keep turning sense back on.
Without those huge page filling widgets, I really have no use for 7 home screens - in which case I felt like I was just turning off functionality of my phone for no real reason.
I suppose if I tried hard enough I could probably find some cool widgets in the android market place to replace those. But I sort of get the feeling that there isn't anything quite as good as the stock HTC ones.

Beautiful widgets, it's in the market and I think it's like $1.99. It has a bunch of different themes you can use for your clock and they have some that look like the HTC clock/weather widget.

For those that asked, here is the rundown of how I set up my home screens.
LauncherPro(free) instead of SenseUI.
Beautiful Widgets Home($1.99) for the clock and weather widget. I used the Black Cashmere skin(free)
I used Better Cut(I think around $2) for the icons. The grayed out icons are from the BlackXeth icon collection(free) for Better Cut.
The wallpaper is just something I found on flickr. - 06-20-2010, 09:00 AM #22
This is very tough for me. I like some Sense, but I have downloaded Home Switcher so that I could try different launchers. I have tried Launcher Pro, ADW, and Zeam. Problem is I like them all for different reasons. Looking forward to trying Sweeter Home 2 as well. As for now I am very conflicted. Someone please sell me on a launcher so I can get on with my life!

So other than having the launcher work in landscape, what is the advantage of turning off sense. Do the other home programs really offer significant advantages?

I like the idea of Landscape mode, but Ive gotten so used to how I set up my 7 Home Screens, that I never have to open up to my apps and scroll for anything. I just flick to the all 7 page view then go to whatever page I want. But these are some nice ideas if in the future I want to change it up. Thanks for the ideas.
