HTC Sync problems

I downloaded HTC Sync and I've been trying to connect and my computer wont recognize it. As soon as I plug it in I get the window popup on the bottom right that says USB Device Not Recognized. If I click on HTC Sync on the computer nothing works either. Is anyone else having the same problem? I have some pics and video's I want to upload. One more thing, after a while when I plug the UBS in, the sync options doesn't show on the phone, it just charges.
