Default Didn't See This Posted - Android 2.2 Coming Soon for the EVO

Just got this on my Twitter feed...

"As work on finalizing the software is under way, Sprint expects to launch Android 2.2 in the near future. It also will be available as an upgrade on the recently launched HTC EVO 4G.

With the Android 2.2 upgrade, customers can expect improvements to include the following benefits: updates to user interface, improved EAS Support, improved browser performance, including Flash 10x Support, voice dialing over Bluetooth and application storage on external memory"

Sprint was really good at updating the palm pre... we would get updates a month before verizon pres.

They always take care of their flagship phones. I wouldn't worry about sprint. I'd be more worried about htc.

+1 to Kedar. They [Sprint] did it with the Instinct, too.

Yup, I agree totally, this is a HUGE deal for Sprint right now, they'll roll it out as quick as possible I would imagine. This is the biggest phone they've launched, maybe ever. Could be a major turning point for them at this point.

Obviously something is cooking else why would they just randomly post this?

I'm not one who will whine about the update if it doesn't come in the next month or two, but I do believe it is critical for Sprint to roll this out ASAP.... the Evo needs to be on the leading edge of all updates for a while, if it is supposed to be a leading handset.

I wonder if the Galaxy Pro will cme with 2.2 and Sprint wants the EVO users to experience the same?

OMG all the Hero owners crying about no update in the OP's link.

Was 2.2 even announced before the Hero's release? And anyone who bought a Hero after 2.2 was announced was only assuming they would get updated.

First off, isn't it more HTC that controls this and not Sprint? HTC has to alter things since they have the sense ui. Sure, Sprint to can delay the release if they want, but they really can't make it any sooner than HTC has it ready.

Second, it is clearly to Sprints advantage to roll this out as quickly as possible, so for all of those anxiously waiting for it, I am sure we will get it as soon as they can give it to us.

Im sure that HTC already has 2.2 working with Sense and that it's up to Sprint to give the okay on it.

Froyo has shown to be a lot faster than 2.1. We should see a very good improvement.

Sprint is good with updates (as they are with other things too). I'm sure we'll have it as soon as they can get it out the door. Sprint isn't known for holding onto firmware for too long after it's deemed ready to go.

I think with this phone Evo Sprint will press the pedal little harder cause this is there flagship phone and they dont want us the customers to complain, I think by end of July or August we will have it, look there is already fix coming this Monday. So Sprint is very eager to satisfy the customers, and I think they learned from the Palm Pre experience.

If there's one thing I've learned from being a techie-nerd its to take "soon" with a giant heap of salt. As others have said, Sprint isn't the issue- they're remarkably fast about pushing updates (See Pre vs. VZW Pre Plus releases)- it's HTC. I would love for HTC to release a non-sense'd version immediately, then the Sense-coated 2.2 whenever, but I won't hold my breath.

    Oh well, there's always XDA
    Palm Pre -> Evo -> Evo3D (for two weeks) -> Nexus S 4G -> SGSIIE4GT -> EVO LTE

Sprint also had a couple of updates on my Tour before Verizon.

After the pure aggravation I dealt with in regards to the 2.1 update for the Hero I have almost no faith in any way shape or form in HTC or Sprint getting this out before the summer. I really hope I'm wrong but I fear I'm not.

So when Sprint says "in the near future" is that one month or six months?
