Using Swype with the Zagg... is it smooth?
I had the IS on my old Pre and it didn't quite feel smooth because of the texture. So the questions is, does the IS affect your swyping efficiency? I need a screen protector right now and i'm thinking of going to Radioshack to pick one up.

I didn't have a zagg on my pre due to its shape, but I do on my EVO. I've been using swype for a while ( having intermittent problems on froyo). and haven't had issues with smoothness. Seems to work good.

Did you watch the scratch test video from youtube was on front page few days ago, don't think you really need a screen protector.

I use swype with a Zagg and it is no problem. On a side note....I felt like the Zagg needed a day or 2 for it to get worked in before feeling OK to the touch

i have the zagg invisibleshield on the evo and i think it is a bit too tacky/grippy to the touch for smooth swype use.
either way, whether the screen is windex clean or has cheek grease on it, the tackiness of the zagg makes the finger skip at the beginning of the swipe motion and and the end of the swipe motion (as you slow down to a stop).
i have a boxwave clear protector coming in the mail; i used one on on my treo 650 and liked it; i remember its surface being very smooth for the stylus.

I thought the same thing, but I cleaned my screen the other day and found a light scratch in the middle of the screen
Needless to say I went and bought the invisishield. Despite what that video showed, you can still scratch the screen, just needs to be something harder than glass (and there are plenty of finely ground minerals that are very common, and harder than glass, that can find their way into your pocket
).
To the OP's question: Yes, in my experience the "tackiness" of the IS does make Swype-ing a little harder, but it is well worth the security IMO, its certainly not a deal-breaker- just don't press as hard.
Full disclosure, I work at BBY (well, Geek Squad), so buy your IS wherever- I'm not trying to increase sales :P, but for me it's a good investmentPalm Pre -> Evo -> Evo3D (for two weeks) -> Nexus S 4G -> SGSIIE4GT -> EVO LTE

Try a Phantomskinz screen. They don't have texture.

I used to have Phantom Skinz and it felt better to the touch. The reason why I don't have it anymore is because it is a pain to install without leaving fingerprints on the screen side. I thought it would go away after drying off but it would persist. I got rid of it and got the Zagg IS and I put it on in 3 minutes with no problem. It is tackier than the Phantom Skinz but not a great deal. If you have the patience and can install the Phantom Skinz without leaving your ginger prints on the screen side then I say go for it, it is definitely smoother, otherwise the Zagg will work fine. Also the Phantom Skinz has less of the orange peel effect.

Thanks for the responses. I thought of getting a boxwave, but I bought the zagg instead out of convenience. I got it on the first try too! Got very few micro bubbles.

I had the zagg on my phone from day one..i tried getting use to it for the last few weeks but couldn't stand it anymore so I took it off yesterday and I'm using it bare back..the zagg was sticky to me and made my screen look hazy. It feels great using swype on the glass surface itself and its alot easier to clean with a micro fiber

hello all -
just a quick update, i got the boxwave protector (clear one) and put it on. the screen is so smooth and has no tacky feel. swiping across the keyboard is much better now.
(the protector showed up just in time, earlier today I had my wallet and phone in my pocket and a corner of the invisible shield got stuck to the wallet and peeled off about 1/3 of the protector when I pulled the phone out) - 06-27-2010, 06:45 AM #17

The zagg is pretty sticky so let us know how the boxwave protector holds up.
