    Default Preparing EVO for Froyo?

    O.K.,

Now that we are getting Froyo within the next few days, what do we need to do to get our phones ready for Froyo.

Will Froyo installation migrate our applications and games to the SD card?

Do we have to do a hard reset to make everything work properly?

Will some of the programs we have installed now not work with Froyo and cause an installation problem? For example, I have Lookout installed, do I need to uninstall this first.

What other programs would we have to uninstall?

I am sure there are a lot of other questions that we need to know before installing Froyo.

If anyone else has answers or questions about Froyo's install process, please add to this thread.

    Thanks.

Wondering what (if anything) I need to back up. Will pics, memos, apps be lost? Looked at other parts of the forum but couldnt find anything that confirmed one way or the other.

Well pics are saved to your SD. Apps and such should be backed up during the process. Although if your afraid of losing them, start a Appbrain account, back them up there and redownload them all easy as pie when the update is finished.

Just sync all of your accounts and start an AppBrain account to sync all of your applications just in case. You'll be good to go after that

YEESSS!! VERY important. When I updated from 1.6 to 2.1 on my old Hero the battery went from 85 to somewhere in the 40's. I couldn't believe it.

You shouldn't have to do a thing... You can back up your Apps and pictures as a precaution but for the most part other than the changes made to the OS every thing else is going to stay the same. Even when I did a factory reset to my phone my pictures were safe and since all my contact/Facebook junk was attached to my Google Account there were just a few minor steps to be right back where I was before the factory reset... Now with a factory reset you do lose your apps if you don't back them up.... But with this update it should be easy with nothing lost.... (Should)

Will swype beta still work for froyo?

If you are running the latest beta they say it should. If it stops working uninstalling and reinstalling it will fix it.

Perhaps a little off topic but ... if you are rooted and have a custom 2.1 rom installed , do i have to go back to stock in order to upgrade to 2.2 when it hits ? Thanks .

That's what I'm gonna do. After the update is done just go one by one and reinstall them. Whatever you do, don't download the app again and hit sync. Cuz it's gonna sync no apps to the online account and you're gonna lose your apps! Just go to the site after you update and just install one by one from the market.

You can also back up all your apps to the sd card using Astro file manager under the tools section.

Nah. Sprint definitely added their nonsense to the update. Hell, they probably have new nonsense with 2.2 lol. Either way just take care of the apps that you downloaded and you'll be good to go.

I've backed up my apps to my SD card using Astro (very simple BTW)..

But would you guys recommend a factory reset before the update (clean everything up), then update, and after that put apps back on one by one?

If you are rooted wait till one of the dev work out the kinks and customize it. That's what I'm going to do wait till they get a good working kernel and customize Rom

Yes you won't lose any info whatsoever. And at this point most apps have been updated to be froyo compatible so not much to worry about. Your phone will be just as it was before the update:-)
