Question For Evo Owners who Switched from BB

Hi Guys

I come here everyday to see some of your user reviews

Ive been eligible for an upgrade from Sprint for Some time now

I wanted to know specifically from Guys who have switched from Blackberries

How is the experience of Replying to Email

I get and reply to about 100 emails a day

and im so used to the BB shortcuts

Just wanted to know how are the Former BB Users coming along with the On screen keyboards?

Set up your email accounts on Gmail if you haven't already, you'll be golden.

I came from BB and I'm sorry to say, if there is one thing the BB is good at, it's basic text email. If the only thing I did on my phone was tap out text only email, I'd probably keep the BB.

Then again, the EVO is better at threading a string of emails and gmail does IMAP and so easily syncs to your desktop using Outlook.

There were a couple other shortcuts on the BB that I liked as well, such as being able to just pick it up and type any name, first or last, or initials and have it take you directly to the contact.

But short of text emails and a couple minor shortcuts/quirks, the EVO just runs circles around the BB. Everything else, speed, internet, nav, you name it.

honestly... i came from blackberry and although my mom has the tour i traded from, and had a curve... the email functions works fine. the only problem i have with it is theres no "read all" function. being straight forward with you, i think youll be fine minus the adjustment with screen keyboard

Email on the blackberry is still better. the blackberry messaging system overall is more intuitive. I did miss the keyboard shortcuts. But the EVO and Android do a good job of competing in the messaging arena. But when competing the other features and functions of the EVO with a blackberry smartphone, its really no contest outside of battery life.

With EVO you click the universal search button type a name contact comes up

I'll let you know Monday night, going from my Tour,Bold and now EVO! Sure going to miss all the hybrid installs on my BB's, but I'm sure the EVO will have more then enough geekness to occupy my desires...lol.

I came from the tour and switched to the bold 9650 breifly. The only thing i miss from the email and messaging stand point is the mark all as read and delete prior. Other then that, my evo blows bb out of the water in every other aspect

I came from a curve and forgot all about it after a few days. I have AOL and Charter e-mails and I set them up through the stock andoid mail app, and I have had no issues at all. I have it set to download every hour, but I find myself "refreshing" on my own every now and then just to make sure I got everything. Replying is not a problem, I find it very easy. The on-screen keyboard will take a bit of getting use to, but for kicks I went back and tried typing on the BB and that was difficult! Once you get used to it, you will have no issues, and may find you like it better.

There are still some things about my BlackBerry device thati miss. I miss the auto on/off, auto text (my EVO has something similar, but it isn't as good), longer battery life, keyboard shortcuts, push notifications, being able to see the screen clearly in the sun, BBM, and the calendar. Sometimes I am reminded just how great BlackBerry smartphones are. They aren't asa flashy and not as powerful, but I did enjoy my BlackBerry a lot when I had it. Don't get me wrong, I like my EVO, but my BlackBerry was awesome too.

olemil! I remember you from BBHybrids. Dude..you will not be disappointed with the custom ROMs and kernels that the Android OS can provide! Welcome!!!

I dont know how you guys can miss keyboard shortcuts when you can have widgets right on your homescreen. Being able to see all the info without even having to hit a button is the best.

I do miss the email integration that BB had. No one does email as good as they do. But the hardware and OS were so behind that I can't imagine ever going back (Bold 9000).

AHH... yes I remember your name too...small world!! Yes it almost scares me with everything the EVO (Android OS) has to offer.... where does it end? LOL. Thanks for the welcome aboard and really looking forward to my EVO,, hope I can put it down long enough Monday night to get some sleep....lol.

I honestly dont think they are. Android isnt really for business users. My wife (who has the tour) could care less for my evo. As a matter of fact, she hates it. She is fine in her lil blackberry world. But what the BB does it does well, flash (no pun intended) is not in the BB portfolio, its about functionality.

What a coincidence, my wife also has a Tour and couldn't care less about my EVO. She says that she doesn't like touchscreen devices because it is difficult for her to use the virtual keyboard with acrylic nails. She doesn't care about apps other than facebook and Twitter. And she really doesn't do multimedia. There are a lot of consumers out there who prefer Blackberry devices for the same reasons my wife does.

As an EX desktop support tech looking for work, I still see that BB experience is the #1 requested skill asked for. But I was amazed that some also seek iPhone exp as well??? Yet nothing asked for WinMo, which was I think the original, and tightest integration with anything from MS, as it is their own sw.

As for me, I went from a Bold 9000 to a WinMo Touch Pro 2, to the WinMo HD2 (which I still love a lot!), to now the EVO, the Android equivalent of the WinMo HD2. I don't miss the BB at all. And I used to be a Crackberry addict, buying all sorts of themes and such. But nothing compares to the HD2/EVO! As for e-mail, after trying the Galaxy S phones (both Vibrant and Captivate), neither their OEM mail or any of the other Android e-mail programs can compare to the HTC one. The look and feel of HTC e-mail is superb, near MS Outlook quality. I do not care for those non POP3 mail clients at all (gmail, etc). And to top it off, not only do those have horrendous security problems (gmail always getting hacked into ie: recent Canadian pharmacy spam), but also most spam mail comes from them.

The HD2? I had forgotten all about that device. I have always wondered how it was. I actually thought the Sense UI on it was better than the Android Sense. Was it a good device for you?

The only reason I got the EVO was because I was sick and tired of having only 2 bars of EDGE in my own home with TMO, and was informed by them that at least up to 90 days from now, there were no listing of any tower upgrades in the area. I love the HD2, but had enough of TMO to last a lifetime! Never again with them.

And even though WinMo seems to be losing a lot of ground, not much of an app market, maybe less now that 6.5.x is dead and most developers going to WP7 only, my HD2 was still an incredible phone! Not to mention easily customized (task bar, sliders, skins, etc), but 10000 times easier to flash a custom Rom to than rooting is. And Roms? Like a kid in the candy store, tons to choose from. And as it was an MS OS, superb integration with MS Office and Exchange servers. I sorely miss it

I actually liked my last windows mobile device. I had a Tilt some years ago and I really liked it. But like you, I didn't like the carrier. I would like to see what WM7 will bring.

I hate where the reply button is in the gmail app in relation to how you reply on a BB, I wish it was a simple menu option instead of having to scroll down through (some very long) emails to get to the reply function... that's probably my one biggest complaint.
