I am not new to the internet.... Probably been on the internet longer than most of the people on this forum have been alive... I was on the internet when AOL charged by the minute and you had to dial up to get a connection...
I just love how people get offended when some one uses all caps... It's always been funny to me... I read all caps the same way I read non-caps. The words are exactly the same both ways.... But it's like some people hear SCREAMING in their head when they see caps and get a head ache from it.... - 08-28-2010, 12:09 PM #9
I remember that first bill I received from AOL in 1995...it was about $430 detailed by per hour usage....amazing how far we have come!

lol... I remember that first bill and I also remember when AOL went "Unlimited" for a flat fee (I think $29.95 per month?) and then it took for ever to find a line to connect to because they were all busy... I remember searching and trying different numbers over and over again and kept getting that wonderful busy signal, and back then a Modem was an OPTION on your computer not standard and there was no WiFi or Broadband... So you could pretty much forget about downloading music or video..... Web pages took minutes to load even if there were little to no pictures and flash? Wasn't even an option...
Plus those thick heavy monitors were crappy and the picture was horrible (Compared to today... back then it looked awesome) - 08-28-2010, 01:37 PM #11
It's called manners. Even if you don't read it as screaming, it's harder to read. If it wasn't, we wouldn't have lowercase in the first place.
I guess you put your feet on the table, chew with your mouth open, cough without covering your mouth...
Think about others next time, not just yourself. - 08-28-2010, 01:38 PM #12
Now children gather around the fire and let me tell you about the old days - We had this service called CompuServe. We were living life large, I'm telling you when that Vic20 (with 8K RAM expansion pack) connected over the smoking hot 2400 baud dial-up. As I recall a game could be downloaded to the cassette tape drive in about 45 minutes. Of course some things never change - then as today 90% of on-line content was porn, spam, and general uselessness...

I remember my first 56k Modem... and Yeah I remember AOL buying Compuserve back in the day...
AOL was a monster in the 1990's.... For what they were charging for internet access even with the unlimited access... Then (where I live) I remember Time Warner Cable started offering a broadband service and it was all down hill for AOL after that....
Good times.... Click "Download" and then go make a cup of coffee, come back and it was only 20% done... Go make breakfast come back and it was 50% done... Go to work come back at lunch and it might be done.... - 08-28-2010, 08:51 PM #21

Re: FINALLY A HTC MADE COMMERCIAL FOR EVO
Talking about getting online in the 80s or 90s does not even begin to qualify you as an "old timer." However being rude does tell us everything we need to know.

Wow, if you say so. Unless you worked for DARPA I highly doubt you spent any time on the net prior to the 80s.
