HTC Evo 4G broken Volume switch
I have an HTC Evo 4G with missing gray plastic from the Volume Up+Down switches.
What I meant is the protruding plastic that can be pushed in as shown through the top-view picture on the left on [Only registered and activated users can see links. Click Here To Register...] . Even though that picture is listed for the Evo Shift, my understanding is that the switch mechanism is the same on the Shift, 4G, and 3D models.

Please note that I am not referring the black plastic rocker buttons ([Only registered and activated users can see links. Click Here To Register...]).
Is there anybody who has the knowledge or maybe has such a spare part who can inform me which of the 4 terminals/leads are closed/shorted and/or open when the (in my case, missing) gray plastic is pushed in?
I can't see what's inside the switch's metal housing even with a magnifying glass (don't have one that's powerful enough) to see if there's something I can poke with a small/thin pin to activate the switch. I am just trying to root the phone which requires the Volume Down button to be pressed while turning on the phone through the Power button. If I can do that, then I don't need to worry about finding a replacement component as I can leave with software volume controls.
In [Only registered and activated users can see links. Click Here To Register...], there's a mention that the Volume and Power switches in the Evo 4G are just "4 lead spst, push to activate, side mount". Using an Ohm-meter on my Evo 4G, I see that the terminals/leads on the same row are currently closed, i.e., low/no resistance.
Any help (schematic of the switch, information, etc.) or pointer to an existing article/blog about this would be very much appreciated.
Re: HTC Evo 4G broken Volume switch
I'm in the same boat - only it is my power switch. All three switches are identical. 3 packs of the switches are available on eBay. 11-12 dollars from the US, 5 from China.
I'll be opening mine up over the weekend. I'll check back and let you know what I find if you don't have a better answer before that.
