Im coming to android.. but need to know a couple things.
My upgrade is Jan. 1st should I wait for the next big thing or get the EVO?
1- Can I video chat with my gf from phone to her laptop?
2- Can you get on Tinychat and video chat?
3-I Came from a palm pre and PREWARE is AMAZING.. Does android have anything like that? I read the rooting page but I do not understand it...:o
One more thing WIMAx what is it? Because it also on my labtop. lol - 12-19-2010, 01:21 PM #2
I was a former Palm Pre owner also! Yes you can video chat from PC to phone, one of the Apps that lets you do this is ooVoo Mobile..but there are several other ones. Wimax is the 4G service that Sprint uses, so if your laptop has it, so will your EVO. Preware was awesome for the Pre, but you will quickly find out that the Evo has a plethora of options for customizing. Rooting the phone is not exactly easy compared to the simple Konami code of the Pre..but after research and patience it is doable, it's just way more involved. You won't regret the Evo!

That's up to you, if your upgrade is on Jan 1st, you should be able to go to Radio Shack and pick one up for about $99 on sale. The next big thing is due to be announced in January (probably at CES) though.
I believe you can with Yahoo Messenger and video chat addon for Android
I have no idea what Tinychat is, so I couldn't tell you.
Rooting is simliar to PREWARE on the Pre (I came from the Pre myself). I've liked Android soo much better, as there's soo much that you can do with it (more developers than on WebOS).

Different companies use it in to mean different things, but basically it's 4G (faster mobile network). - 12-19-2010, 01:26 PM #4
The Evo 4g is pretty big right now.
Video chat:

Tinychat:
Preware is only for the palm pre but I do remember reading something about using it if you are rooted. - 12-19-2010, 01:30 PM #5
(1) There are a few applications for video chat in the android market. (i.e. qik)
(2) I don't know what tiny chat is - but I know that the phone does video chat.
(3) Android have rooting...thus, giving you the option to modify your device. Which is somewhat similar to prepare.
I believe wimax is the introduction to the 4g connectivity.
You will definitely love the transitions from WebOs to Android.
Best of luck . - 12-19-2010, 01:32 PM

NO. There is absolutely no way to get zune pass music on Android at all. Microsoft will probably never make an app, either, since they have their own mobile OS. If you are talking about purchased music not downloaded using the zune pass subscription then you should be able to use that.
I have a zune pass and I wish Microsoft would release an android app, but I'm not holding my breath. I've tried rhapsody and napster, and neither one is even close to zune pass.Forum Rules & Guidelines -- CLICK HERE

I just upgraded from the Pre to the Evo yesterday. I had been planning on waiting to see what Palm announced at CES, but everything I was hearing sounded like bad news. I'm extremely happy so far, though the virtual keyboard and figuring out which apps to use in place of my favorite webOS apps are taking a little while. The speed and customization abilities of the Evo are far superior to the Pre. I think Android has generally gotten a bum rap in webOS circles, too. I like the UI and the multitasking.
