wifi disconnects

I have just started using wifi on a regular basis for a Tab. It works fine on the Tab. But on the Evo whenever I turn of the screen, the wifi disconnects. Have tried resetting and also tried an app called wefi which establishes a wifi connection but again it is lost when I turn the screen off. Any help? Is my phone just defective?

i've been having this problem too since the update.

sometimes the wifi icon is on, but wifi is not actually connected, so i have to reconnect.

Settings>wireless & networks>Wi-fi settings>Click the menu key, select advanced>Wi-fi sleep policy
