This is just a heads up for others out there.
I noticed just after my latest software update (one with Swype and such) that some of my widgets and even regular icons were not refreshing or, as in the case of certain widgets, showing old and new info.
Restarting the phone didn't fix this once it started up.
I removed and added back the widget to fix it and noticed that it was still there when I dragged to the trash. I picked up on the fact that ALL of my homescreen icons and widgets were essentially duplicated as in a layer being over all others. Also, BOTH would work.
The fix has been to simply drag the duplicated icon (as if normally dragging anything) to the trash. You'll know it's a duplicate IF when you start to drag it you notice another one in the same place.
I did this on every screen and for every widget and icon. All of the "remaining" one work just fine.
