Question regarding Asurion replacement
Hey everyone,
So I busted my Evo's screen (sadface) and I have to file an insurance claim. I have TEP and I know I have to pay the $100 deductible, but does anybody know if it's possible to have them send me an Evo Shift instead of an Evo? Logically it doesn't seem like a big deal because the Shift's MSRP is lower, but maybe they have a policy.
If they can't do that, will I get a NIB Evo or a refurb? - 02-05-2011, 04:07 PM #2

I don't think you can get a shift but you'll get a brand new evo, I was in this boat a couple months ago, asurion sends it almost next day as well, take care

UPDATE: I called Asurion and filed the claim. They said they couldn't give me the Shift (not really a surprise) and they had no idea whether the phone would be new or not. Extremely helpful, if you ask me. =P
I sure do hope it's new though. When I had to file a claim for my Touch Pro I got a new one and that was awesome. - 02-05-2011, 05:50 PM #8
That's odd cause my wife cracked my screen after having my phone for 4 days. Took it in to sprint expecting to pay that 100 bucks for tep but since I had tep on my account they replaced the screen for free.
Then again this was 2 months ago and they might not be doing this anymore with the screen shortage.

yep, under 5 minutes- Sprint replaces screen. I have had an Evo replaced through Assurion in the past. They sent a refurb, it had issues. Called and they sent a different one. That one had a huge scratch down the side. When I called that time, I was rather upset and told her I wanted a new one. They sent me a new one right out!

I called Sprint about it and they told me to call Asurion.

I'm not exactly sure why they would tell you that unless the Sprint store you called was not a repair facility? I dropped my EVO at a Superbowl party and shattered the screen, Monday morning I went to the nearest Sprint Corporate Store with repair and they replaced the screen free of charge. Bezel, Screen, Ear piece, and I swear it sounds like they went ahead and changed out the loud speaker as well. Sounds to me like you received bad advice from a CSR not in the "know".

I only used Assurion once - with my old Pre. They sent me a new one although to be honest it would not have bothered me if they had sent a refurb - after all they were replacing a used phone not a new one. Only time I have heard of another type phone being sent was after multiple problems with one type of phone. (my daughter was on her 5th Pixi so they finally sent her an Android instead). She is happy as a lark.

Wait a sec......Sprint will replace the screen for free? I have a bright white spot on the screen and do not want a refurb so just swapping the screen would be great. Is this an official policy or just some stores do it? I ask bc the repair center by me sucks bad. I get pissed off just driving by there.

I dropped mine and out got a weird green spot in the middle of the screen. I took it in and asked for a screen replacement. They even replaced the outer part of the case. It had cracks near the power button and one near the volume down button. The only part I hated was having to unroot before taking it in, and then having to root it again after getting it back home.

I was just about to make a thread asking if I needed to unroot. Lol. Same happened to my Evo
.

I don't wanna unroot, I just want to change the HBoot screen to say S-ON. I have a lock pattern, so they won't be able to see if I'm actually rooted. Would be great if someone could help us out
.
Edit: I flashed the Unevoked S-ON Tool .zip and got it saying S-ON. I'm taking it to Sprint this weekend, hopefully they won't tell I'm rooted.Last edited by Andr3w; 02-09-2011 at 09:18 PM.

I didnt read the whole 3 pages, but yes. . .Sprint will replace the screen for free with TEP. However that is assuming they can get the screens.
They have been pulling this with me for months that they have no and cannot get screens.
Told me to get a new phone under insurance or buy the screens from ebay and they will reinburse me.
Both of which cost me money and defeat the purpose of paying insurance IMO. - 02-10-2011, 12:17 PM #24
So what can u do to protect the screen from getting damaged?

Policy actually changed this week and smashed screens are no longer covered. Technically, anything more than 2 scratches less than an inch long are sent to Asurion. Otherwise, considered cosmetic and not covered.
How quickly service shops start refusing to replace is probably another story.
