Sometimes the phone syncs the contacts to the phone instead of the google account. Check and see if this is the case.
Go to People>Menu key>View... then see where your contacts are stored in, the phone or google storage.
If they are stored under Phone... then go to People>Menu key>Import export>Export to sd card>Phone.
Then go back to People>Menu key>Import export>Import from sd card>Create contact under account... select Google >Select vcard file >Select one vcard file> then select the vcard file you exported from the phone.
Then go to Account settings.. Sync.. sync your google account and all your contacts will be synced again.Thanked by 2: - 03-11-2011, 11:26 AM #3
I'm experiencing the same problem too... but my contacts are stored in Google. I get this error saying - "sync is currently experiencing problems at this time". This seems to be a Google thing.

I did all this and it brought back a zillion contacts that appear to have been one-off emails I'd received. When I go to my account sync, it refuses to respond to Sync All commands or the individual box being un/reticked. (It says it hasn't synced Contacts for 10 days while Mail and Calendar is up-to-date.)
If you want to remove the account, it warns that it will delete all the contacts off the phone, so that's not an option because I've been having a long-running problem with Gmail's contacts not syncing with my phone and changes made on the phone not making it to the online book. I don't know what's correct where, so I'm doubly screwed. Calendar items entered either place mirror within minutes - Contacts, never. What can I do?
UPDATE: Now when I hit Sync All anywhere in Accounts and Sync, nothing updates! No wheels turn. I've restarted my EVO. It's stock, no root, etc.
UPDATE 2: The non-syncing issue got worse with NOTHING, including Gmail, synching. It turns out that when you have a low space on phone warning that will happen. Dumped some apps and data and got that working. However, Contacts still show has having synced in 10 days. A test contact I put on the site and a change I've made on the phone have not synced and there are a ton of duplicate entries. It's getting to be a shambles.Last edited by DirkBelig; 03-30-2011 at 04:29 PM. Reason: Added more

Nothing? No fixes? Sigh.

Unfortunately, sync doesn't seem to work that way anymore. Tap each individual application and manually sync them.

Ps. Clear cache and/or data for the people app. menu _ settings _ applications _ manage applications _ all _ people. - 04-08-2011, 04:33 PM #7
Manually tapping the one now spins, but doesn't sync, I think. I made changes on my boss' contact on the phone and tried syncing and they didn't go up and the test contact ("A Test") didn't come down. However, when I put a Co-Workers tag on the boss on the phone and re-synced, it mirrored online.
re: Clearing the data from People - Won't that wipe out all the contacts on the phone, thus requiring a pull from online? If so, that won't solve the problem because there are changes on the phone that aren't backed up (other than Titanium) and thus they'd be lost. If the stupid sync had worked in the first place, I wouldn't have to contend with this. No, it won't require a pull form online, or wipe out your contacts --- infact, that should fix your sync problem. I just did it and then went back and manually sync contacts again. Check the time the sync occurred to see if it's accurate. (the spinning wheel|icon will stay visible)

Edit: Once you get that working... and background data, and auto sync are checked - then sense will do its job. Your phone Should update itself every day. (Some updates vary depending on the interval settings)Last edited by rushrl; 04-08-2011 at 05:35 PM.

No go and what's weird is that whether I un/recheck contacts or hit the Sync Now button to sync Calendar and Gmail as well, the time for Contacts remains the same as the time I changed the tag as mentioned about, but the other two update to the time I hit the button.

Same problem with htc thunderbolt, I've tried removing contacts and clearing cache for the people app
Edit: same time issues as Dirk ^
Edit: try this to fix syncing google contacts
Thank you thank you thank you!
I had previously tried clearing data from the people app with no luck, it looks like my google contacts are loading now after clearing 92mb from the Contacts Storage cache!Last edited by notmebug; 04-09-2011 at 03:55 AM.

I have been googling for days to get this fixed up because nothing else would work and I stumbled upon this thread when I began my own. Thanks so much Cyber Warrior!
Only problem I ran into was it duplicated all of my contacts on Gmail. Thats an easy fix though. - 06-12-2011, 01:25 AM #12
