Default HTC says, no more locked phones?

    HTC
‎"There has been overwhelmingly customer feedback that people want access to open bootloaders on HTC phones. I want you to know that we've listened. Today, I'm confirming we will no longer be locking the bootloaders on our devices. Thanks for your passion, support and patience," Peter Chou, CEO of HTC

Not sure if this means everything is unlocked or???

I love when consumers win. Unfortunately too late for several phones, like the EVO 4G, but it's nice they took notice now, and I'm sure other manufacturers are taking note of the situation as well.

I think this means that the bootloader is unlocked. With an unlocked bootloader you can load up any ROM you want using a PC36IMG.zip file. Not sure if this gets you to the S-OFF state or not, but it sure makes it a whole lot easier to get there.

Why is this, can't they unlock it via an update or something...??

I don't think that this means what you think it means. They are talking about the boot loader which only affects the ease of creating custom kernels and custom roms. As far as I know, the evo's boot loader was not "locked". Hence the millions of evo custom roms/kernels.
