Don't unroot and don't take the OTA because it can unroot it. Just wait for a dev to root the official release.

Chances are there will be a rooted version a few days before or after the release.

How does that work? Do they release a whole new ROM or a kernel? I just rooted 10 days ago so I'm curious how it works.

It's the same ROM, just rooted. No need to unroot and take the one Sprint rolls out. I'm not going to get it regardless. OTA ones always seem to slow the phone down a little bit, and need more frequent reboots for me. I'm happy with 2.2

Supposed to cure the increasing problem with some EVOs that can't/won't charge the battery if it goes dead.

Crossed over from BB about a month ago, so I'm really new to the Android OS. Is there a possibility that this update will get rid of the bloatware? Or am I stock with it until I root? Thanks!

To be honest I don't see Sprint giving that option yet.

What are the chances we get 2.3.4? I know the droid x got 2.3.3, but it doesn't have a front facing camera. Would that possibly play into it? Keeping my fingers crossed for google video chat.

    thanks

When the new rooted Gingerbread ROM becomes available here and I flash it to my phone will this automatically replace the current kernel that I have installed now?

    Yes

Also will amon ra be able to be used to flash this new ROM and if so will instructions be available on how to do so?

    Yes

Another question I have is I haven't rooted my wife's phone yet...will that phone be given the option to NOT except the new OTA download of Gingerbread when it becomes available next week so that I can still use the current methods of rooting a 2.2 phone? Is there an option that I need to turn off so that it doesn't automatically except the new update?
it should popup and ask if you want to download now. choose no.
