The GB update makes my Evo feel like a new phone!
I must say, I am very impressed by this update. I am surprised how smooth the phone feels, how nice and fast the flip clock is animated, and I just like all the little screen fade in and out touches and all the other little improvements this update brought, especially the app management!
After the update I also had more internal storage available which is a big plus in my book.
The smoothness isn't the placebo effect either. Live wallpapers run better now and all my benchmarks have improved.
I could never break 1000 in Quadrant, now it did 1120.
Browsermark went form 33000 to 45500!
Nenamark1 went from 11 to 14 fps
Smartbench 2011 never ran well on my phone, this time around it scored around 800 and 900 for the two indexes
Neocore went from 25 to 31.2
Overall, I am very happy with this update. Once Handcent LED notification and Netflix gets fixed, I will be happy with this phone until my Evo 3d arrives! - 06-04-2011, 02:39 AM #2
I am also loving the update now that I have everything up and running good finally. All those bugs that I had went away with a factory reset.

Running better now too, plus my clock flips now! Also noticed new fonts in the notifications for 3g/4g, email, and a new address bar in the browser.

I'm getting permanent "Low on Space" warnings meaning I don't get Gmail anymore. I've got 20 unread messages I can see on the PC that aren't on the phone. I've uninstalled more than I'd like to have already and moved anything that can go to the SD card with no change. It's just too fat. Suckage.

I have a whole lote more internal memory and it also seems that my battery life has greatly improved. I was playing with it for about 2 hours last night and my battery went down less then 10%. Thats amazing!

Agreed with everyone! Everything runs smooth and fast and the HTC flip clock looks better than ever on my homescreen

Ok so glad it's working for you...so what about all the others on here that have posted nightmare results after the update..?? what did you do different..?? Are you Stock?? how many apps did you have, and how many did you loose.??
Just don't understand why it's different with each phone....

Same experience here. Most noticable improvement is in the calendar. I sync an Exchange account and 2 gmail accounts. Colors are deeper, more vivid and font is crisper, easier to read. Looks like they've tightened things up a bit on the screen, slightly smaller font in places but much more pleasing to the eye.

Luvin me some gingerbread. Update downloaded and installed flawlessly on my EVO. Haven't noticed any problems whatsoever! Awesome job HTC and sprint!

Agreed...
Everything is so much faster now (especially web browsing) and the kick in battery life is nothing short of amazing. I will say that it seems as though I've lost some space in internal memory, and yes, it's a drag that Netflix no longer works (doubtless a revision is in the works), but overall you can color me extremely impressed.
This will definitely keep me going through October, when I can finally upgrade to the EVO 3D.

That's interesting. A friend of mine has a Droid Incredible which showed more than 700 mb of internal storage available with hardly any apps installed. He had the permanent Low disk space icon too, sounds like you both need a factory reset. Might be a PITA to do, but it should be worth it in the end.

Yep, definitely loving the increased battery life and the smoother animations. It's the little things that make this update worthwhile. Woot!

Yes I am on a stock rom. I did nothing different, just downloaded and installed it like everyone else. I never had the rogue voicemail issue either, actually, I got an additional voicemail while the update was happening, and I did have one voicemail stored in my box when the update was done, maybe that's what caused me not having the rogue voicemail problem.
How many apps? Lots, I was down to about 60 mb of free internal space when I did the update. I have been unistalling and installing lots of apps just because I ran out of space frequently and had to make room for more apps. My 2 friends did the update as well and reported similar pleasant results.
Yeah it sucks no Netflix for a while, but I am sure they will fix that, same goes for Handcent, the dev for that app has been pretty active with updates as it is.Thanked by: - 06-04-2011, 07:40 PM #19
Mine worked beautifully as well. Searched for the update, downloaded, then installed. No problems whatsoever.
Honestly, if I hadn't read on here what changed I might not have noticed. Some report it being much faster but I can't tell. Certainly no slower.
Overall a positive experience. - 06-04-2011, 08:08 PM #20
My suggestion to those who are having problems is to back up personal info and perform a hard reset.
Install apps from scratch and set them back up.

Getting ready to do my girlfriend's update. Wondering if it deletes all apps and data on the phone? Do I need to use MyBackupPro or something and be ready to replace all of her apps that she has installed now?
- 06-04-2011, 08:23 PM #23
It didn't delete any of my apps even my pictures are still there. The only thing I lost was it cleared out all my browser stuff and saved passwords. It wouldn't hurt to back it up but if it's just stock I don't think it will.

Other then it showing i have 4 voice mails when I have none, phone is much smoother. Don't care about the voice mail issue seeing as though I will be sporting a evo 3d in a few weeks.

The only issue that bothered me was the high display utilization of the battery but a day later, that auto corrected itself. I don't use Netflix or access Exchange email and the WiFi no longer supporting N doesn't affect me either. No force reboots. No problems with Sense. I love the update and yes, it's like the EVO is a new phone with better battery life. Loving GB.
