World Phone Capabilities

Ok, I understand that from factory the gsm is locked down so that you cannot use a North American SIM card from AT&T or whatever, but...

Once this thing gets rooted, will there be a way to unlock that so if I travel to Canada or Mexico I can just pop in a local prepaid sim card and go?

I do travel to Mexico and Canada often and would love to be able to do this. Anybody know how this works?

Yes, definitely hope it gets rooted. I am looking to purchase one at the end of this month.

I will be calling sprint today to see what I can find out about the SIM card and if it is truly locked of if it's just a setting change. I'll let you know.

I'm not sure about Canada or Mexico, but I've used my Design 4G in the UK and Italy with local sim cards and had no issues at all.

I've gotten confusing and mutually contradictory information on this from various Sprint representatives. I would really like to know if the gsm part of the Design is locked or unlocked for use outside North America. It's nice that it's a world phone but roaming is just a scam, I want to be able to use local SIM cards.
