Default Netflix on the HTC Evo Shift working!

I recently tested out the new Netflix 1.3 on my Evo Shift. Now, I know that the phone isn't on the supported devices list, and that you can not download the app from the market, however, I have it working on my Evo Shift with no root or custom rom. I have Gingerbread 2.3.3(the gingerbread update), and I was running it on wifi. I haven't tested it on 3g or 4g speeds yet(do not have good 4g coverage ).

    Here's the link from androidpolice.com:

Confirmed working on my evo shift nonroot 2.3.3 also. How i did it was i installed the original netflix.apk that was taken off that test phone a long time ago (first leaked apk available). Then it automatically updated to the new apk and works perfect. Goodluck guys and gals.

Can we get some more detailed instructions about how you got it to work?

Ok! Got it! What I did was first install the original Netflix apk. After that, I tried to install the updated version. My phone said it couldn't install due to an error. Next, I backed out, uninstalled the original apk, installed the update, and now I'm watching my Netflix on the go!

Do not move to SD! It brings back the 1005 error!

Holy smack!!!! Having netflix on my phone was one of the reasons I got my Shift (I didn't know that it wasn't available for it, just the Evo). This and the HTC update to get rid of the soft boot makes me very happy!!!

First, go to the home screen>menu>settings>applications and check the "Unknown sources" option. Also, make sure you have ASTRO File Manager or a similar file explorer ().

Next, download the .apk to either your computer (you'll have to connect your phone to your computer and transfer the file) or directly to your phone. Finally, open the file using ASTRO and install. If you download directly from your phone, it will be in SD/Downloads, otherwise it will be wherever you put it.

Here's the download mirror for the .apk

Thanks for the link crump84! All I had to do was check "Unknown Sources" as mentioned above, click crump84's link, select 'Yes' to goto the Download viewer. Once it was downloaded I was able to open it from there and didn't need Astro at all. It opened without hesitation. The first time I tried to play a movie it did give me the 1005 error though. So, I closed the app and reopened it. From that point I've been good to go! :-)

Update: It didn't seem to matter that I moved this 25mb behemoth to my SD card.

Thank you. Followed your instructions and it worked great. Have Netflix on my Evo Shift-awesome!!
Moved to sd card also with no problems. To me it works exactly the same as in my wife's Epic 4g (kinda laggy if you ask me, but I don't mind)
