Evo Shift keyboard question

I have a 4 month old factory Evo Shift 4G.

The issue is this:

Anytime I slide the keyboard open the screen turns off. This just started happening, not sure if I changed a setting or....?

Any thoughts/help is appreciated.

Have you tried a battery pull and reboot?

Usually, just the opposite happens; the screen turns on when you open the keyboard. As was suggested, try a battery pull. If that fails, give Sprint's customer service a call. They're pretty helpful.
