    Default Shift on 3g

Anyone else have a shift on 3g? I picked up one today because my pre crapped out.

Anyway, the dl speed seems sloooooow on 3g and connectivity seems spotty. My pre would get ~1.3mbs on average. The shift is only getting 300kbs measured by the speedtest.net app, and that's only when it can connect. I've been getting alot of network unreachable retry/cancels that have been irritating.

I am wondering if there's a problem with this model, or it's just mine.

Btw, the slider is pretty solid, if a bit stiff. The keyboard is pretty good. Just enough click to register a keystroke, but easy to type on.

Might want to call Sprint and have tech support refresh your data or do a new MSID. Obviously not working right if you're getting 1/4 the speed you got on a different device. If those are done, the device may have a bum antenna.

Mine gets almost the same as my Evo. Have you tried different locations in the settings menu?

Like tndank said call sprint and have them walk you through a data profile refresh. You will get your MSL that way too.

That fixed my speeds for the most part but I am still seeing some wonkiness. When the data is acting up buttons on web pages won't work, and when using the hard keyboard it won't insert apostraphes or capitalize "I". Strange eh?

i just tested out my 3G here at work. getting the same speeds i would get on my Evo - somewhere between 300 and 600 kbps

i get between 2 and 4 bars of service where i am, it's not terrible but not the best either.

I also bought the shift last night (went from Hero) and noticed my 3G speeds were really slow. I just tested my speed and it was 140 kB/S. Should I contact Sprint or take it back to Radio shack and swap it out?

Try calling Sprint first, it will take 15 minutes at the most. Unless you really do have a hardware issue...

I noticed fewer bars on my new Shift and thought it meant I have lower reception, but just did a test and got 1281 and 491 on 3G, which is actually better than what I used to get on my Hero in this area. I'm really curious to see what I get when I turn on 4G.

Definitely contact Sprint and see what's up. So far I feel this antenna is much better than the Hero.

I've been mainly on wifi and haven't tested the 3G much but earlier I was unable to play a Youtube video without skipping.

    I fixed my 3g speeds issues, now i'm pulling 900 kb/s to 1.2mb/s.

All you need to do is get your MSL and do the ##DATA# reset.
