Qwerty Keyboard problem
Sometimes when I am typing with the qwerty keyboard on my shift it will almost act like it glitches and then the screen with go upwards. I will have to scroll back down to where it says tap here to enter text and click on it again to start typing. Is anyone else having this problem or is it just me?

I thought I was going crazy or that I had hit the screen by mistake, but this has happen 2 or 3 times to me as well. I use the keyboard all the time and have only seen it those times, so I'm not sure what was causing it.
Also, it happen only when messaging not while on the web or poking around.EVO Shift owner since 1/06/11

I wonder if this is something that they are going to be able to fix ota ir if its going to be a warranty thing where we have to go get new phones.
Where would we call to complain about this and possibly get a fix for it?
So far this is the only thing that bothers me about the phone and its not even anything major. The phone rocks otherwise. - 01-13-2011, 08:54 AM #7

Please keep me posted on this and give me as much detail as possible on this. I report issues that manifest on the forums to our device teams weekly.
Thanks.

Ok the most detail I can give you is this.
When typing with the actual keyboard everything starts out fine with typing all letters are hitting coreectly and then all of a sudden the screen seems to jump upward into your previous texts with that same person and stops all typing. To get back to where you can type again you have to take your finger and scroll down to the "tap to add text" to even start typing again. Usually on a prolonged text it only happens once but I have had it happen 2 times in one text here recently. - 01-15-2011, 01:39 PM #12

I have noticed that when I a texting multiple people at once it happens more frequently when other messages are coming in. When it notifies me that there is a text it will almost always do it. But then it still does it occasionally when I am just starting a converstion with someone and no other message are coming in. I do believe this needs to be fixed by htc or sprint.

I looked up this forum (and signed up) just to see if others were having this problem. Hopefully signing up will help me find an answer!
The only though I had was that perhaps I bumped the volume rocker, though that and the D-Pad don't scroll the screen.
What's even more annoying is that the active window switches to the texts above, so typing is interrupted and requires scrolling down and re-focusing on the text-entry box.
The only thing I could think of was shutting off the auto-brightness (wild goose chase) and that did nothing.
Hope somebody figures this one out... - 01-16-2011, 11:00 AM #17

Well ive got the insurance on this phone so if its a hardware problem I will be covered for the duration of the phone. My buddy got the shift and his was doing this and he decided to take it back and get the EVO. He's a phone ***** so hes already not happy with that either and is wanting the shift back lol. I love this phone and am gonna stick with it. Yea its a little annoying but I've had so many problems with my last blackberry (8330) that this is nothing lol.

Sent an email to the HTC support team and received the following reply on this issue:
I have seen this happen before on a few other devices, though it is rare. The most common solution to this would be to clear data from the Messages application. Please be aware that this may clear all text messages from the device, so if you have vital information saved in your text messages, you may want to find a third party application to back up your sms messages before performing these steps.
1. From your Home screen, tap Menu > Settings
2. Tap Applications > Manage Applications
3. Tap Messages and then Clear Data
4. Perform a soft reset on the device by removing the battery for five seconds, reinserting the battery, and then powering the device back on
If you are still having any issues, you may need to clear some temporary files and third party applications using the steps below. If you have a lot of text messages saved on your device, you may also want to delete some of these by tapping and holding on the thread or message and selecting delete.
Clear Temporary Internet Files:
1. Navigate to your Browser
2. Tap Menu > More > Settings
3. Tap on the following: Clear All Cookie Data, Clear Form Data, Clear History, Clear Cache.
4. Soft reset your device by removing the battery for five seconds, reinserting the battery, and then powering the device back on.
Delete Third Party Applications:
1. Navigate to Home > Menu > Settings > Applications > Manage Applications > Menu > Filter > Third Party Applications
2. Uninstall any applications that you downloaded just prior to getting this error.
3. Uninstall any applications that you do not use
4. Soft reset your device again by removing the battery for five seconds, reinserting the battery, and then powering the device back on.
If you are still experiencing this issue, you will need to perform a hard reset on your device. Please Note: A hard reset will delete all personal information and restore the device back to factory default settings. You can perform a hard reset by going to Home > Menu > Settings > SD & Phone Storage > Factory Data Reset.
After the factory reset, if you are still having issues you will need to contact our Warranty & Repair department for further assistance. Their number is 877.293.0807 and their hours are 8AM to 8PM EST Monday through Friday.Thanked by: - 01-18-2011, 05:37 PM #24
So they are basicly saying they don't know why it is happening and for us to troubleshoot it for them or swap out the phone? Thats the cliffs notes version as I read it. LOL

After reading this thread the same day it was posted, I have made a point to watch for this problem. I can now say after 8 days and countless messages sent that it has never happened on my Shift. Can't help but think it might be a problem limited to a certain batch of phones.
