    Default Stuck on HTC Screen

I just tried to install the OTA update to 3.2 - downloaded fine, told it to install, and now I'm stuck at the white HTC screen (not with "quietly brilliant" underneath) - I've been at this point for over an hour now with no change, which seems to be longer than anyone has been seeing for this upgrade. I was completely stock before the upgrade...

Any help would be MUCH appreciated.

    Thanks!

I am in exactly the same boat. I did run the OTA update for HC 3.02 and the screen is locked as above. There was nothing unusual about the device. It had some tasks running while the upgrade downloaded and I killed those (not the download though). Everything looked perfect.

Download completes. White HTC screen comes up. I am happy.

Stays up for 5 min. My enthusiasm halts. So does the device. I leave it on for 5 hours with the power plugged in.

After that time, no progress. No simply brilliant screen. I am thinking it is not simply brilliant.

Called HTC support. I put it into the boot loader screen (POWER + VOLUME) and reboot which reset the data to factory default. As soon as I learned I lost my data, we were in hot water.

So that's my story. Looks like it has to be mailed in! Complete failure on the HC update.Spent about 30 min on the support line. They didn't say anything really, that it has to come in. Glad it works for the rest of you, but don't automatically recommend this without caveats.

Wasn't worth it guys. I bet anything it comes back with GB and so I will have lost all data and the OS back to where I was in the first place. I DON'T root or play with ROMs. Everything done to this was factory direct. I was the "good boy" so it is now up to them to fix.

Sorry to hear your update went bad, so far it sounds like this is the exception and not the rule.

There is a standard caveat that unfortunately did not make it to you, with any update you assume that your data will be lost, especially with an update as major as this. Backup what is important regularly, and especially before any major change.

I recommend backing up data, and then performing a factory reset before this update, that gives it a clean slate to update from.

Though stuff can still happen under perfect conditions. There is no guarantee that the download will be free of corruption, or the install will go without a hitch.

It's probable that it will come back with HC. I read on a forum (either here or XDA) that someone who had sent their Flyer in for service had it come back with HC installed. I believe this was sometime in December and before HC was officially released.
With that in mind, and the fact that HC is the current release I'd bet your flyer comes back with HC.

    Again sorry.

Sending mine back to the warranty/repair people at HTC too - should send out on Wednesday and hopefully have it back before the end of the month...

Thanks, admittedly I was impulsive with the install, got the IT's notice and just pressed ok.

But still, HTC should have some backup as I lost everything. It is literally a brick. Powered it down to zero battery etc. in the attempt to clear RAM.

If you had it linked to your Google account, and had it set to backup settings, your program settings should be saved. Though I am not sure if this would work with the OS change.

Also keeping data on an SD card allows to remove and save it if the tablet needs to go in.

Hindsight is 20-20, my advice comes from experience as I have had to learn "the hard way" having issues like this happen in the past.

I noticed that the Flyer had an update to HC, so I pulled mine out of the desk drawer and charged it up and ran through two updates before I reached HC. The upgrade went off without a hitch and my files on my sd card were preserved. I will install my HC pen apps that I have been using on my Lenovo ThinkPad Tablet and post a comparison. Initially I will have to give a plus to the Flyer for retaining the hardware pen settings and the screen capture with annotations.

I got HC finally. Sent in for repair, but return went to wrong address. 5 day delay. Wrong zip code, guess she couldn't hear me on the phone. That was ridiculous, but more mistakes were in store. The tablet came back with nothing done, it still had a frozen white screen on boot when I took it out of the box. I would say he put a new plastic wrap on it. That was it! After 3 hours of tech support, we got it done though. Long afternoon. The ROM installed on the repair ticket was the wrong image as far as I can tell. I guess the tech guy thought it would just self install when I powered it up. Wrong. Anyway, just glad to be operational again. Be careful people, HTC repair staff get in a hurry.
