Default Cell standby(?) on WiFi Flyer - killing my battery

I've been having some pretty terrible battery life on my Flyer since I've bought it. I can't even make it through a day of idle & light use without the battery going dead. If I look in the 'Battery Use' section, it shows "Cell Standby" as the predominant user, at 73%. "Tablet Idle" is at the bottom with 3%.

Is anyone else seeing this or have any suggestions?

Hmm, that's pretty wacky. I don't have a Cell Standby entry on my battery usage meter at all.

My cell standby is showing the most battery usage also. I started using the HTC battery widget last week and that made my battery drain faster. I'm not sure why though but, I noticed the same thing when I put one on my Droid Incredible so I stopped using them. I've been having good battery life so far.

Does anyone know what this is supposed to do? I have the wifi only version of the flyer - so without 3g connectivity, then what is this utilized for? I do notice that if i put in airplane mode I can still use wifi connection. My battery drain was also associated with this feature like you others have reported.

There is quite a lot of discussion on this issue with the Nook Color. After a quick look, it appeared that the Android OS mistakenly thinks your device is a phone and some patches were posted for it.

Airplane mode fixed it (I found that suggestion elsewhere almost immediately after posting :-/ ), and it is indeed very annoying. Hopefully the patch will fix it.

If you are experiencing the cell standby issue check to see if you are using Friend Stream and turn it off and post your results. Friend Stream is a known issue, from what I have read.
