Hello fellow Droid-ers, I am in some need of some dire assistance. I recently updated my HTC Hero to 2.1 android at the Sprint store, awesome right? NO! It doesnt come with the cool features like the live wallpapers that Ive been seeing on YouTube, and Ive been wanting that for the longest. Now Im not very familiar with trying to "root" my phone, so I need someone out there in android world who can help this goat out. thanks.

Once you upgrade to the official 2.1 you are screwed there is no way to root it thats why you shouldve rooted and then flashed a rom while you still had 1.5

I heard something about the froyo 2.2 may be available for the hero as well is there any truth to that?

Pointless until you have root (which is being worked on). Most likely Sprint won't upgrade the Hero to 2.2 unless they are still selling it months down the road. There's a hacked up ROM available now (although not usable daily, more of a proof of concept). I would say the devs would come out with better versions of 2.2 before Sprint/HTC do anything about it.
