Default Should I upgrade to 2.1?

I know 2.1 has been out for a little bit for the Hero, I was excited to finally get 2.1 but I just didn't have to time to invest in the upgrade. Now I'm kind of glad I didn't instantly upgrade. When I first got my hero back in Oct of 09 I spent so much time on Sprint's HTC Hero forum trying to work out all the issues with my phone.

Now that 2.1 is out it seems people are having issues with it. I would post this over on Sprint's forum but every time I try to create a new topic the page won't load so this is why I am here now.

So personally with all the issues with 2.1 on the Hero is it worth upgrading or should I wait till they iron out the issues with 2.1? I really want it but I just don't know if it's worth it just yet.

Have you ever thought about rooting? Then you could backup 1.5 and try out 2.1,if you don't like then you could restore your 1.5.

I have thought about rooting my phone I have seen some of the really cool things you can do with a rooted android. Plus from my understanding the people with the rooted 2.1 Hero have not had any of the issues that the non rooted 2.1 people are having. Though I could be wrong.

Also the thing is I tend to play it safe and I wouldn't want to void my warranty. Knowing me I would mess something up trying to root my phone. I'm not very tech savvy when it comes down to actually doing things.

the instructions are very easy and there are people here that can even walk you through it should you choose to root. if you wanted to unroot it to bring it to a store you can run the upgrade and it wil re-lock the phone. others have taken phones back to the stores and left the phones rooted and nothing was said. so its up 2 you. give it some thought, we will be here either way.

Hmm I'll think about it I'll have to do a little research and see if rooting is something I really want to do.

    Thanks for the info though

For those who did upgrade to 2.1 via Sprint's / HTC recent upgrade download was it worth it or do you wish you would have stayed with the current version?

I'm actually quite pleased with the update. I feel that my phone moves a little faster than before and I'm very pleased with the aesthetic/cosmetic changes in 2.1.

This is my first Android phone and I came from BlackBerry. I never updated my BB OS to a leaked version, always waited for the official. That's just my style. I like to customize and fuss with things, but I do it all within the framework of the official OS.

Overall, the only thing I want but don't have from the official Sprint 2.1 is Friendstream. Didn't come with the Sense update. Ah, well. I'm happy.

It's available on Damageless' ROM, but it isn't that good.

Thanks for the info and incite guys. I still have not decided which route to take root 2.1 or official Sprint 2.1.

Which one is faster to install and takes less work?

Also say if I did upgrade to to the official 2.1 from Sprint, if I had issues could I then root my phone and have my phone running the 2.1 root?

Running the ruu is pretty easy.Rooting is just about as easy.If you run the official 2.1 there is no way to get root.Maybe in the future there will be but its not looking good as of now.
