No 3G reception with Hero

My wife and I are in vacation. She has a Hero and I have the Evo, both on Sprint. I've been getting anywhere from 2 to 5 bars of 3G reception all week. Her Hero has yet to get anything but EVDO. I checked and the radios operate in the same bands. Is the radio in the Evo that much stronger? Any suggestions?

EVDO Rev A is 3g. are you referring to the 1x on the status bar?

Ah, sorry, I'm coming from an iPhone. Is the 3G symbol an Evo thing b/c of its 4G capabilities? I realize now that Ev on the Hero is 3G. Duh. Thanks for clearing that up.

Yes, 3G on Evo, EVDO on hero. She's good to go. Everything is normal
