Gingerbread Rollout Thread!
So it looks like it is finally time for those of us with the MT4G to get our Gingerbread update. T-mobile's official statement says only a select number of phones will get the update today. Others will just have to wait their turn.
Once you have yours, Post here with your reviews and findings! Screen Caps would be awesome. Does it have the new lock screen like we have seen with Sense 3.0 phones? Any other little things you may notice.
You may also post benchmarks and battery performance reviews.
I look forward to my update!

Anyone know if I have to have a T-Mobile sim card in the phone to trigger/get the update? I haven't been using it as my primary phone although it is still turned on and connected to wifi. I'm thinking I should switch back in order to get the update pushed out.

Re: Gingerbread Rollout Thread!
Does anyone know how T-Mobile will send it out? Does it just randomly pop up in notifications saying that there's an update?

Re: Gingerbread Rollout Thread!
Its a push update so yes, when it's time for yours you will get a notification that an update has been downloaded an is ready to install. It auto downloads in the background while your phone is in standby then will notify you when it is ready to install.

Re: Gingerbread Rollout Thread!
It has already started to roll out. They launched the roll out a few days ago to a "limited pilot" number of people. T-mobile's official statement says they will be continuing the roll outs from now until the end of the year. So it could take some time to reach everyone. According to the statement they also go on to say that you can not rush the process by calling and requesting the push. It is not in the call center tech's hands at this point.

I am also reading that T-Mo stores will have a SD card around August 1st to help those with the installation process. Sources have linked a T-Mo notification sent to their employees it seems.

Re: Gingerbread Rollout Thread!
Thread went cold. .. Has anyone actually gotten the update yet? Its been over a week since the start of the roll out . I am wondering who actually got in? Also.. if you have not gotten your roll out update by Aug 5th is anyone going into a retail store and trying to get them to install the update from their sd cards?

Re: Gingerbread Rollout Thread!
GhostGregg - do not have it yet. And the way I keep putting the phone in Airplane mode for proper rest, I may not get it. IF and that is a HUGE IF, I do go into T-Mo, I will be there 1/2 hr before opening. As I've said across the net, it will look like the unemployment line meets social services meets there's a giveaway line.
If you have not gotten it by then, do you plan to go to the store??Since 2009, Android phones to date - Behold, G1, Cliq XT, MT4G & SGSII - 08-01-2011, 12:55 AM

Re: Gingerbread Rollout Thread!
I am not sure. More than likely I will stop in. The store is only 3 blocks from my house. I may pop in and just ask about it. They may be under some kind of instruction not to preform the manual update for folks asking about it. My gf works for t-mobile customer care and I may be able to play the employee card but I am not going to push it. As soon as I found out that the sense UI did not update I kinda lost a bit of interest. Now I am still deciding if I want to unlock it and install a custom sense 3.0 rom.

Re: Gingerbread Rollout Thread!
Well I am still waiting to read about that part as well. I mean, why else would they have the SD card if not for an update for those who don't want to nor know how to do it. At any rate, I am in no rush. The phone is fine as it is for me. I just have to stop adding so much free stuff from AAS.
The new market looks good even though it's luggish. Kinks to be worked out...Since 2009, Android phones to date - Behold, G1, Cliq XT, MT4G & SGSII - 08-02-2011, 06:18 PM #24

Re: Gingerbread Rollout Thread!
Yes. you can root and install custom roms, not for the faint of heart like myself though. LOL I dont have a lot of money to replace the phone if i brick it and am not really comfortable in my programming to really attempt this.
There is a guy here in town that does it, Im going to find out how much he charges lol.
