KaysCase Slim Case for HTC One

I'm looking at the following two cases from KaysCase on Amazon. I have never used a case before, (actually first time owning a smartphone.) Should I get a hard one or soft one? Any recommendation is greatly appreciated.

The hard shell is probably better for protection, plus the reviews on the hard shell are really good. Hard shell ftw.

I have this very hard shell case and have posted my review of it on Amazon under the same name I use here on the forum. It's OK, but there are a couple of problems. Read the review.

I have a similar hardshell case made by Boxwave and it looks great on my phone. I've always maintained that when you have a phone like the HTC One with its beautiful design, it wouldn't make sense to slap a rubber case on it, especially one that is not clear.

Having a hard case keeps the sleek, thin look to the phone and still showcases the beauty of the aluminum back. All the while giving you plenty of protection from scratches and minor falls. Obviously, if you dropped it from chest high onto concrete/cement face down, the hard shell case is not really going to give you much protection because it doesn't have a large lip on the front edges.
