Default How do you use HTC Sync Manager

Ok, I'm usually very tech saavy and RARELY do I have to ask this sort of question, but I have no idea how to use HTC Sync manager. When my One is plugged in and I open Sync Manager, the only thing that happens is in the bottom right corner I see a capacity. The rest stays more or less blank, none of the buttons do anything, nothing happens. Should I uninstall it and re-install it? Is there something I need to do on the phone to make Sync Manager functional?

Except it truly sucks since it can't seem to handle network shares as locations for media files. For example, I tried to tell it all my mp3s are on my Windows Home Server and if I drill down to that directory (either from the server location for from the "library" location) the OK button never becomes active for me to select. It wants a physical local drive. Garbage. So I uninstalled it, and now every time I plug my phone in it wants to install it. Nice.

Hi all, I'm having the same issue as the original poster. The user guide doesn't help as I think it's a bug. I've installed HTC Sync manager, tried rebooting and running as Admin but whenever it opens up I get a mainly black screen. When I hit the sync button a dialog box pops up then locks up. I'm running Win8 which isn't explicitly supported, I'm not sure if this is the issue, any help please? (this is my first Android device, so far not a great start )

I actually used the HTC Manager for the first time on my iMac last night. What I did was plugged my HTC One into my iMac using a standard USB cable. A window popped up on my iMac with an icon labeled "HTC Manager". When I clicked on it, my web browser came up on a page with the software for download. After installing it, I was able to connect my HTC One with my iMac to sync my iTunes music files to my phone, transfer files, etc. It seemed to work fairly well, but it was a bit limited.

I don't use it either lol couldn't get it to work either, so I dismiss notification when plugged in go to "my computer" and click on the phone and drop stuff into appropriate folder on phone, or I use the app "airdroid" if I don't even want to hook up phone to computer and I'm home on wifi

Hmmm, I wanted to copy contacts and messages etc from my old iPhone. Gave up in the end and used Outlook to export the contacts to Gmail which solved that problem. It was a bit of a crappy solution though. Ah well, one of the benefits of Android is the drag and drop. iTunes is a pile of crappy bloatware

Thank you, it is helpful; however, it does not answer a question I have. How do I email someone a pic from Sync Mgr, or save it to my hard drive?

Just use Android File Transfer Android.com
Its much faster and more reliable than Sync Manager. I used SM to transfer my iPhone settings to HTC One and haven't used it since.

I got it to work once on my iMac and now every time I try to use the sync it just stops responding so I have to force close it and try again. Crappy piece of software if you ask me.

I have been having HUGE issues trying to sync my new HTC One M8 with my Mac. First the application crashes upon opening, as soon as it starts scanning media. One every ten attempts it will open and when I try to sync it crashes again. What a piece of crap! HTC should be ashamed of themselves putting out such buggy and useless software. I guess I will go back to my iPhone, iTunes NEVER crashes. HTC are complete amateurs. I would advise anyone to stay clear from making the mistake to buy HTC.

UPDATE: I TRIED TO CONTACT HTC CUSTOMER SERVICES THREE TIMES. THEY RESPOND WITH GENERIC EMAILS. MOST OF THEIR RECOMMENDATIONS REFER TO PRIOR VERSIONS OF THE ANDROID VERSION AND SO CAN'T EVEN FOLLOW THROUGH THEM. I AM ASTONISHED AT HOW USELESS THEY ARE. I NOW HAVE DECIDED THAT I WANT TO RETURN THE HANDSET AND GET A REFUND AS IT HAS BEEN A HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE. OF COURSE AS SOON AS I MENTIONED THAT, THEY DON'T EVEN ANSWER THE EMAILS. I AM GOING BACK TO MY IPHONE, I HAVE BEEN USING APPLE IPHONE SINCE 2007 AND I NEVER HAD SUCH ISSUES EITHER WITH THE HANDSETS OR WITH THE LEVEL OF CUSTOMER CARE. I GUESS I WILL GET A SMALLER SCREEN BUT AT LEAST I WON'T BE DEALING WITH THE HTC TYPE OF MESS. I WOULD ADVISE ANYBODY CONSIDERING TO BUY THIS HANDSET TO STAY AWAY, SYNC SOFTWARE IS VERY BUGGY AND THE CAMERA SUCKS.

Use Airdroid. It's freaking fantastic for managing data between an HTC One and a computer.

can anyone tell me when you make a backup of the phone contents via sync manager, where does the program store the backup file as it's default option on the computer?

Everything works great if you UNINSTALL HTC Sync. Then you can open the HTC Directory and exchange files back and forth with your PC. With Sync installed, I could not get anything to work. Go figure.

Android what? The only thing I could figure out how to use was Windows Explorer, after uninstalling HTC Sync. Before that, I could not access the files on the phone.

DO NOT INSTALL IT, it is the worst software ever produced on this planet. Totally automated and it will scan your whole computer weather you like it or not every time you start that piece of s**t. You can't do anything useful with it what so ever.

I got a new HTC One a few weeks ago, and it apparently came with HTC Sync Manager installed, since its window pops up when I plug the phone into my Macbook Pro. But this is a bit weird, because how did it get installed on the Macbook? Did the HTC One somehow reach out and tell the Mac to install the software? Also, I do get another window popping up on the Mac inviting me to install HTC Sync Manager.

But the main part is that what I get is a window titled "htc" with an image of the phone, "Phone connected" at the lower left, and "Sync" button that I haven't touched, and what looks like a conventional progress bar with a short blue line at the left labelled "2.t7GB", followed by the usual light grey bar with "24.84GB" at the right. The blue "progress" line has been the same length (about 1 cm on the screen) for over an hour, and is apparently not progressing. The Activity Monitor shows an HTC Sync Manager process that's using around 1.5% to 2.2% of the cpu, but appears to be doing nothing visible. I have no idea what's going on, and poking at the "htc" window's widgets gets no response at all.

So should I just uninstall the thing? Their description says it does all sorts of useful syncing stuff, but as far as I can tell, there's no way I can actually use it for anything. I can't even tell which direction the supposed syncing is happening, and if it's phone-to-Mac, I can't find what might have been put where on the Mac. I've seen all this a few times when I've plugged the phone into the Macbook for charging. The online manual mentioned above says I can do things, but when I try doing things it suggests, either nothing happens, or I get incomprehensible (error?) messages.

My old HTC G1 just presented itself as a file system to whatever computer it was plugged into, and I could do assorted useful stuff with this. Is there a way to get this simple behavior with the HTC ONE?
