Can I make an email notification open the inbox rather than the actual email?

I set up my school email, which I think is MS Exchange. If I get an email, I get a notification of a new email on my phone that just says "new email xxx@xxx.edu." I can't see the title of the email or anything else in the notification bar. When I click the notification it opens the new email up immediately. Is there any way I can change it so when I click the new email notification it goes to my inbox rather than to the message view? I get a lot of crap emails that I don't need to read and it seems to waste time opening them up.
