My phone randomly crashed while I was using the facebook app on the phone. It froze at the last screen before it goes to the home screen. I tried the power/volume button trick, but every time I shut it down and restart it or reboot it, it keeps freezing. I don't want to perform a master reset and loose all my data. Any advice?

Welcome to the forums!
I am not familiar with the One, but I can get someone who does.

Try booting into recovery and clearing the cache. If that doesn't work, you'll likely have to factory reset.
Are you running a custom rom?

You can also try booting into Safe Mode. Just turn the phone on normally, and as soon as you see the screen light up, hold down the Volume Down button, and keep holding it down until the phone vibrates twice: one short, then one long vibrate. If successful and you can access your phone now, I'd recommend uninstalling Facebook or any other apps you recently downloaded that could be causing boot problems.

No matter what, when we get this fixed download Helium and back your apps up. It's important. If you need to reset again you'll have your apps to restore.

Hi there, I saw your forum post when searching for a solution to the same exact problem you had. Did you ever solve it? Thanks so much.

Welcome to Android Central! This is a 3.5 year old thread, so it's unlikely you'll get a response from those guys. Do you have an HTC One M7 as well?

The solution is very simple:
- hold down the power button and volume up button, till you get and Android figure with a warning triangle
- hold the power button down for 5 seconds then let go, a boot menu will appear
- scroll down with the volume down button, to factory reset/wipe data & click the volume up button
- after the data is wiped, restart your phone by clicking the volume up button, when reboot has been highlighted and voila! Back in business

Hope this helps, from Africa with love
