volume issues with my m8yy

The past two mornings I have set an alarm on my phone that never goes off, even if the volume is turned up. So I try and test the alarm today and it seems to work, no problem. I very easily can accidentally adjust the volume when using the phone. Is there a way to lock down the volume so that it is set at maximum and will not change unless I specifically choose to do so?
