Why do I have to be close to the router to pick up wifi (HTC One X)?

HTC one x wifi issues

bought 2 one x's off ebay now and neither can pickup wifi from 15 foot away? my htc desire hd is fine and so is the girlfriends iphone , her mac and my netbook, so why won't the one x's pick it up other than directly next to the router? tried changing the channel on the router and no change

i know there's a wifi issue with a wire inside them, but would have thought it was a one off, not happening twice

edit phones off 2 different people strangely enough :s

Your seller is probably getting phones with problems, not fresh from the factory phones. If I were you, I'd return them and get a refund. (If I were me, I'd open them and fix them, but the labor will eat anything you saved by buying on eBay if you pay someone to fix them.)
