HTC One M7 won't turn on and the red light is constantly on. What should I do?

HTC One M7 won't turn on and the red light is constantly on.

So last night I plugged in my HTC One M7 into the charger. I did not use the phone for the day and the last time I checked it was at 21% battery life. When I woke up in the morning to check on the phone, the red light was still on indicating it was still being charged.

I removed the charger from the phone, but the red light is still on and when I tried to turn on the phone by holding the power button, only the back and home button flash but the screen is blank. The phone has been like this for the past 4 hours and I'm not sure what I should do next. Did anyone else have this problem?
