People and Calendar in Sync Manager Sync Settings have no way to choose them

These two items in sync settings have no circle to check beside them so I can t choose to sync them. I finally get sync manager to recognize my phone but still cant sync my contacts. Help pleaseits as I said above. I cant select people to sync it with laptop (and thus back it up)
