Step-by-step procedure of firmware rooting on HTC One M8 via CF-Auto-Root tool

Step 1: Download CF-Auto-Root application tool lik here in to your PC.

Step 2:installed USB driver software, here to download driver

Step 3: Now, connect HTC One M8 to your PC.
Step 4: Now place the 'UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.02.zip' file in to the smartphone's SD card memory. Note: Users are advised to paste the .zip file in SD card root, not in any other folder
Step 5: Now, turn-off of the phone, and disconnect from PC. Then, enter download mode, by press holding Volume (up) + 'Power' button.
Step 6: Once you enter in to the Recovery mode, select 'flash zip from SD card'
Note: use 'Volume' keys to navigate and 'Power' button to select options, while operating under Recovery Mode
Step 7: Then, press power button again and click 'choose zip from sdcard'
Step 8: Now, initiate the rooting process by tapping –'UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.02.zip file'.
Note: use 'Volume' keys to navigate and 'Power' button to select options, while operating under Recovery Mode
Step 9: Once the installation is completed, go back to main recovery settings and from there re-initiate booting by pressing- 'reboot system now'.

Does this permanently root your HTC One M8? Please let me know ASAP. I've been trying to ROOT my HTC One M8 but I can't seem to do it cause my boot loader is locked. Please HELP Me!!! Thanks.

I think the only way to root an HTC m8 Verizon phone is using the Sunshine tool. Even then, as of two weeks ago (and I didn't check now) they couldn't root a phone that was at 5.0.1 level. Sunshine is $25, but if you want root, worth every penny. They may have figured out how to root 5.0.1 by now.

Sadly they haven't from what I've seen, they are still working on a way to be able to root 5.0.1.

Have any of you tried to unlock the bootloader through HTCDEV? if it unlocks the bootloader then flash TWRP recovery and flash SuperSU in recovery and Bingo you have root. Another option is to flash a custom rom in recovery. A new sunshine should be released this week which will be compatible with the M9 so it should work with the M8.

Unfortunetly Verizon has HTC keep their phones off the HTCDEV list and as of right now there is still no root exploit for Verizon 5.0.1

I seem to remember a way to edit the CID to enable HTCDEV unlocking, but I don't recall the specifics.

great folks over at xda have guides it took awhile but i went from lollipop to root then sunshine s-off unlock finally on Marshmallow with TWRP bootloader.

I'm having trouble trying to root my HTC One M8 on Marshmallow. I went thru the whole process as you. I broke root when I went back to stock to get OTA. I am S-off and Unlocked thru Sunshine. Can't find any way back to root my M8. Can you or anyone send me to the right direction? I would appreciate it a lot. Thanks in advance.
