Default Using a Verizon HTC One M8 on ATT..

I know most Verizon smartphones come unlocked out of the box and I was wondering if I used a Verizon M8 on AT&T would I get LTE or just HSPA+? Thanks for any help I get in advance!

CDMA phones can't be used on GSM networks, and vice versa. Just because it has a SIM card does not mean a GSM SIM would work in a CDMA phone.

Ignore ironbesterer, Verizon hasn't sold a phone in the last couple years without GSM and CDMA radios. The M8 will work fine on ATT HSPA+ but it won't get LTE on their 700mhz Band 17. It will get LTE on their AWS Band 4 but that is only in a few markets so for most people, you won't get LTE with the Verizon M8 on ATT. So far the only Verizon phone to work fully on ATT is the iPhone 5s/5c unfortunately.

I recently got an unlocked Verizon HTC One M8 to use on my AT&T network. Apparently I'm able to use the phone & text function just fine - but no data! And AT&T (surprise!) is unable to assist me with fixing this. Anyone available to help? PLEASE?

Really dude. You don't have the slightest clue of what you're talking about. If I were you I'd look up the facts and come back and edit my erroneous post, but that's just what I would do.

Completely wrong. All modern CDMA phones come with a GSM radio for international roaming. You can use that radio domestically if your phone is unlocked. I think all VZ phones come unlocked.

However, you may not get LTE if ATT and VZ don't use the same bands. I'm not sure if they do.

You would have to edit the apn settings.

Verizon uses b13 primary and b4(xlte) secondary.

Att uses b17 primary, b2,4,and 5 in limited areas. So you should be able to get LTE where att has b4 LTE. But it would be very limited compared to b17.

Another thing to consider is that I think Verizon locks down band 4 on their phones for use outside their network. Even though T-Mobile uses band 4 and the Verizon BlackBerry Z30 has band 4, I could never get my Z30 onto T-Mobile LTE. Not sure if the same thing is going on with Verizon 's M8.

Bottom line is it will work, but don't expect LTE.

My Verizon note 3 was able to connect to tmobile lte. But it would not auto switch between lte and other modes. The 5s and 5c on Verizon are identical to att and tmobile models.

Does that mean the two phone radio's are different?

I thought they were the same phone (ATT = Verizon minus ATT crappy apps) and you only need to set the right APN settings to get LTE, no?

I can confirm this. I used to own a Verizon m8 on att. Data works, but wasn't able to get lte. What's good of the phone and lte data without being able to use it, so I switched to tmobile. I think it's not worth it not having lte with a lte capable phone, but not being able to use it. Just sell it and get the right one.

Because Verizon somehow prevents other carriers from using band 4 on their branded phones. Not sure that's the spirit of their agreement with FCC but it's what's going on.

Machoua Yang, I have an M7 that will talk and text, but no data. How did you get the data working? I would be fine if I could at least get 3g. I can't add APN settings like ATT phones, but am very interested in keeping my current phone if possible, or at least using the data until I find an ATT phone I like. I currently have it in "global" mode with a ST SIM.

I have an HTC One M7, Verizon unlocked and it came with 4.4.3. Unfortunately, this means I can't add APN settings I need to use to get data and MMS with Straight Talk. The only semi-solution (well solution, but I have no idea how to do it) is to root and re-flash to 4.4.2.

Does anyone else have a possible fix besides this? I'm terrified to brick a new phone.

    Thanks in advance

Currently using the M8 on cricket (AT&T)
Didn't have to do anything but add the apn settings once I put in my sim.
Currently only getting HSDPA but I have no complaints. Phone is speedy and the data I'm getting real fast and reliable. But no LTE.
