I had the issue of not being able to receive MMS with wifi on with any messenger except Hangouts and the stock Messaging app. I found out that I had to create a new APN but that only worked on LTE. These settings will work for LTE or HSPA. It will allow the messaging app to automatically turn on mobile data and download the message. Not sure if it'll mess with wifi calling since I don't use it so YMMV.

Well all was working well till I started toggling wifi calling to see how it would work then now the phone is saying my APN is invalid if I leave LTE off. Fixed it by removing epc apn.

Sadly third party apps cannot use MMS via T-Mobile's wifi calling feature. The stock messenger has to be used for this.

Unless you do get data wherever you're on wifi calling at.. Then most 3rd party ones can toggle mobile data to download it then shut off... But if you want MMS strictly over wifi calling only.. Then you have to use stock sadly :(.

If you don't mind, which third party sms/mms app are you using?
