I am taking my phone to tmobile tomorrow because the volume rocker issue is getting worse. Is there a way to save everything I have set up (apps and their settings, etc)? So that I can load it
on a new phone sans fudging with all the details?

Back up using sync manager. Look under the help section in the program. It will tell you what backs up.

cwbcpa's recommendation is a good one, there is also HTC's cloud based back up service. I had to replace my phone due to a cracked screen and leveraged HTC's tool and it worked like a charm. All personal content, apps, settings, home screens and widgets transferred one for one. Was nice not having to rebuild my home screens.

Yeah. They are good for that. Lol. There is also an app called Helium that you can use to back up app data. The nice thing about it is that you don't have to be rooted to use it. I use it for anything that doesn't automatically save to whatever cloud storage I'm using. Great for game saves.
