Default Scratch on back of phone

I've managed to scratch the back of my One M8.... had it out on a desk at work, dragged it across the desk, and obviously a bit of dirt or something had got underneath it and scratched the metal, just below the 'htc' lettering (there is another fainter scratch above the lettering as well)

Anyone else managed to scratch the back of their phone and anyone got a fix that doesn't involve sending it off for repair!?

Don't really think there is gonna be any real " solid " fix for a scratch. Sure you hear some using fine tipped colored Sharpies to color in a scratch (ends up looking bad IMO). Eventually things get scratched it part of it unless you throw a case or skin on it from day one.

I am the Tegra Champ. What this means is that from time to time NVIDIA might send me new products to try out. This will not affect my thoughts, ideas, or opinions about any product that are discussed in the forums. Those are still my own.

    100% this.

I have mine naked for now, but planning to get the Spigen Slim Armor case. I just love looking at this phone too much to put it in a case right now.

Not having case: get to experience the phone 100%
Having case: not the full experience, but your phone will be protected

I always usually slap a case on the new phone right when I'm in the store getting it! The only real solution to the scratch being removed is getting a new phone, but you'll be paying for that.

At least your phone now has character...

I'm having a mental war with myself right now because of that thought process. I want to protect my phone, but I love how it looks without a case, and the phone itself holds up pretty well without a case anyway, so I'm not feeling rushed to get a case either.

You can get a new back cover from here HTC One M8 Replacement Parts . Remove the 2 speaker grills and 6 screws under grill and remove back cover and reverse for putting it back together.

I feel like the only way you would know that is if you dropped it/banged it a bunch of times

To me, protection always comes first. I'm very persnickety as to making sure my device is always in tip-top shape, so when it comes time to turn it in/sell it, I can get the highest possible price for it.

in the 5 days of me owning the phone, i've dropped it twice. once because someone bumped into me at a cookout and knocked it out of my hand, and another time because I was about to plug it to the charger and dropped it while untangling the cord. both times, i picked it right up and checked it. no scratches, no scuffs, nothing cracked. one of the drops was from the waist level, the other from chest level. added to that, one was outside, the other was inside. for both to happen and leave no types of damage, even minimal, tells that it holds up pretty well.

now, that doesn't mean i'mma put the phone in dumb situations intentionally to see just how much damage it can take (i'll leave that to the YouTubers that get free phones for reviews lol), but i feel confident in not having to rush to get a case right now.

I'm torn because typically I'm very particular about my phones, I'm always wiping dust off and checking it for damage. Lately, after seeing I somehow have a hairline scratch or two on the face I'm less obsessive and just enjoying the phone. I'm not displaying the thing for people to judge how perfect it is. It's a tool. So what if it isn't perfect.

Furthermore, it's priorities. People obsessing over their phones condition walking around 40 lbs overweight, not in shape and their personal lives in disarray. Focus on the important stuff.

Case protects phone from drops but usually it gets scratched and filthy inside the case.

It's not bare metal, there is a clear-coat and you most likely just scratched the clear. This can be buffed away. You'd have to severely gouge it to get all the way through the clear and to the metal. The techniques used in auto paint repair will apply here, though you don't need the final stages that bring about a high gloss.

Also, FWIW, I keep a clear "skin" on mine for protection because I refuse to use a case on this phone, and mine is fine.
