Hi there,

My brother's M8 Gallery app just started showing every single Sticker from Facebook messenger as individual images inside individual folders. It also displays other app assets such as FIFA Ultimate Team images. He doesn't think this used to be a problem.

Since he asked me about it yesterday, I've also had 2 of my friends ask if I had any idea why their M8's Gallery was suddenly showing all Facebook Messenger stickers - so I'm guessing this is a new bug as of yesterday?

Does anyone have any solution to this? It looks pretty horrible in the Gallery when you've got rows and rows of folders each containing a single Facebook sticker image.

Use a file manager program such as ES File Explorer to locate the folder containing the images you don't want in the Gallery (could be the parent folder). Then create a file named ".nomedia" Notice the name starts with a period. If the folder is on the SD card it's a little more difficult since Android apps can only write to folders they own. In that case, create the file on the device, then connect the phone via USB, and move the file to the SD card using the PC.

I just did this for "Touchdown" so I don't see a bunch of email attachments.

EDIT: if there's only a few folders you don't want to see in the Gallery just hide them. Gallery app - Settings - Show/Hide Albums

This seems to have sorted it, cheers :) However this seems pretty crazy for the average consumer to have to do, the Gallery app really shouldn't be scanning anything inside the Android folder, that's full of system files and assets. I'm on a OnePlus One and my phone doesn't do this, nor did my HTC One M7 before that!

I had this issue also, but I could see all of the game graphic files too.

I put the .nomedia file into "Internal storage\Android\data" and my gallery is back to normal, no Fifa, Dead Space or Facebook stickers to be seen!

Thanks for your help

Create a file with the name " .nomedia " well first off al what format is the file supposed to be? like .nomedia.txt or .nomedia.bat or whatever. i can't just choose .nomedia it won't have a file type then ...

Hey OIivier, it's probably too late to reply, but you can create a file that begins with a period in Linux and Unix based operating systems very easily.
That being said, Windows does make it trickier if you are not using the command line.

Still, there's a workaround in Windows.

First, make sure that your file extensions are shown for known file extensions. Just google this: How do I make file extensions appear in Windows?

When you're about to create a new .txt file, just highlight the entire name and replace it with .nomedia.
It'll automatically create a .nomedia file without the appended period at the end.
You can do the same thing with folders/directories.

In the UNIX world, and generally in computing, file extensions are just a way for us to keep track of the kind of data that is stored in those files. The contents are actually insignificant.

Also, in UNIX, a file or directory that begins with a period is considered a "hidden" file in the sense that it would not be shown to the user by default.
There's more to this, but you can Google the rest and everything I've said very easily.

Cheers!

Hi there,

Hey guys-
So adding the (.) Does hide all the thumbs, so yeah, you don't have to see them. But that still keeps them in your internal phone memory and my phone is always low on space so is there anyway to correct the problem by getting rid of them completely off the phones internal memory without having to delete them completely from messenger, i like using them but every time I delete them in the gallery they come right back, and does anyone know why all of a sudden this is a problem because I've always had stickers for chat but they never have done this before? thx..

I might sound a bit dumb but I downloaded ES File Explorer but still am not completely sure how to do the rest... Sorry. Is it possible to explain in more detail? 😳

MUCH EASIER FIX:

Click "≡" on your FB app, scroll down, click "App Settings", you'll see "Sync Photos", change it.
