HTC refusing warranty work - claiming photos show water damage?

Hi,

I sent my M8 back to HTC, mainly because the headphone port was only working on one channel. It also had a couple of bright spots on the screen I asked if they could look at.

They've quoted me £213 to fix it claiming it to be water damage. I'm sure the phone has never been dropped or near water, so should be warranty.

Could anybody explain how these photos show water damage? Also any advise on how to proceed would be awesome.

It sure looks like water damage. Did you not get it wet at some point?

EDIT: didn't read closely enough, you said you didn't. Basically you'd really have to complain until they let you talk to someone slightly higher up and then convince them you never got it wet. Then you might get it done for less money or possibly free. But yeah, convince them it wasn't you.
