HTC One M8 (AT&T) won't take charge, won't power on. How can I get it working again?

HTC One M8 (AT&T) won't take charge, won't power on.

I have tried plugging to wall as well as USB to PC. No light, no sound, not recognized by other devices or PC. Can it be brought back? If no, can I retrieve data, pics, video, etc. without power on?

has it been wet? whats the history of the device? was it working before?
When you plug it in to a wall outlet, have you let it set a while. Lion batteries have low voltage protection in them. If the voltage gets to low they simply shut off. Extreme heat and extreme low voltage are bad.
Have you tested the cable / wall charger with another device?
