Default Htc One max wifi connection issue

Hey I have heard the One max for 2 weeks now. Previously had the galaxy s4 but I have had my eye on the max for a long time. So it arrived and was excited but now am having trouble connecting to any wifi router or hotspot. I have been online since and saw that the one(m7) also gave a few people the same issue. I have tried every trick in the book proposed. Havent seen any post specifically for the one max so am inclined to think its just mine. For now am back to the s4 coz my data plan is killing me. I need wifi. Need help from anyone..

I am running kitkat 4.4.2 btw.

Welcome to Android Central! It would still be helpful for you to outline what you've tried to fix the problem, because otherwise, people won't know what to suggest and what not to suggest. In the meantime, review this guide and see if there are any tips that might be useful: [GUIDE] Troubleshooting Wi-Fi Connection Problems

    Hey B.Diddy.

Thanks for replying. Sorry about not clarifying about what i have tried. I had actually tried all the tricks mentioned on your link. I have forgotten all my networks then tried reconnecting. I changed my wifi frequency to 2.4. I even did a soft reset of my phone and cleared the cache partition. I tried connecting in airplane mode. I tried to connect to the wifi manually. I swithched off my router but it didn't solve. I then checked my router security to make sure it wasnt screening me out but it wasn't that. I even reboot to factory default on my router but I am convinced its not a router issue because my s4 has no problem connecting at all even after messing with the router settings. Right now just 1 other device is connected to my router so it's not an issue with too many users on the network.

Have also tried changing my phone name to HTC One max on the direct wifi settings because it had worked for most HTC One users that had the same problem. Am starting to get really worried now because its just frustrating because everything else on the phone seems to be working like it should except the wifi. And how i was looking forward to the phone for months..Hope I managed to clarify what I have done.

That's very helpful. You mentioned that you're having problems connecting to any Wi-Fi. Does that mean it isn't limited to your home network? Do you have problems connecting to public networks, or networks at friends' houses?

Please excuse any typos or autocorrect derps.

The weird thing is most of the wifi's i have tried connecting to are password protected & I can't connect to them when I key in the password. But about an hour ago I just connected to an open wifi network without an issue. Atleast now I have a smile on my face because I know its not a hardware issue..

So how do I go about sorting it out for good because now am even more confused. Is it a bug affecting my htc or what?

Go into your Advanced Wi-fi Settings. Are there any options there for Wi-Fi Optimization? If so, try turning it off--that setting is actually to improve battery life, and might actually impact wi-fi performance if turned on.

Have you tried a friend's home network router (as opposed to a public network)? I'm wondering if it's worth replacing your current home router.

Btw I heard read about turning it off earlier and I did turn it off but still no change. A friend of mine has a Nexus & he tried to connect to my wifi without success. I went with him to his place and tried connecting to his wifi and my htc managed to connect. Now am even more confused. I think I will have to call my provider and ask for a router replacement if I cant sort this out.

What kind of router do you have? Is it provided to you by your internet company? Is it a combination modem/router? Those seem to cause more problems. If possible, see if you can get a standalone modem, and then get your own router.

So I finally managed to connect to my home network after a bit of phishing around in my router setup options. I am using a cisco epc2425 modem router so what I did is go to the wireless security option in the setup menu and disabled WPA PSK(pre shared key) and enabled WEP(64-bit) encryption. I then generated a WEP key and used the 1st network key as my new wifi password and to my delight I can now use wifi at home like everyone else. Super psyched and hope this helps out others with the same issue.

I have the same problem! My HTC one max wouldnt connect to wifi connection if its password protected!! But if the wifi connection asks you to sign in via webpage there is no problem.
I have tried to connect with friends routers, doesnt work! My friends can connect to my wifi router easily! I have even formated my phone like 5 times, only once it workes then after two or three days it got broken again! The message that it gives to me is: saved and secured connection, when I say connect, after a while it says DISABLED!!!
so you said that you tried to change tge settings of your router, what if I need to connect to some public routers that ask me the password at tge beggining I am so worried about this issue. Btw I will try the router modification as you said and let you know if it worked.
    Thank you!

Hi sorry about getting back to you late. I have been trying to research about it and I tried connecting to a friend's wifi connection who had an identical modem router as mine and was WPA protected as I was before and guess what,it worked...So am thinking its a bug affecting the phone itself. So am going to try switch my router back to WPA and see if it will work. Lets hope an update fixes this issue.

Hey guys I think someone at HTC has been hearing our issues with the wifi connection. This morning I woke up to a notification for software upgrade of my sense 5.5 to a the 6.0 so i updated my phone. So i reset my previous WPA password and tried connecting to my wifi and to my joy it connected.

So anyone who has been having trouble connecting to home and work wifi I suggest an upgrade to sense 6.0. It worked for me and I believe it will work for everyone. No need changing your router password anymore from WPA.
