I'm extremely new to the Android market and have decided to swap from apple to android when I can get my hands on the HTC One on Verizon (through my job). Will the new carrier affect whether or not the phone can be rooted or will I be able to the second I buy the hardware?

What's the normal turn-around time on that?

What do you mean? You can root basically any HTC One device on the market.

You're probably already aware of this but rooting is very different from jailbreaking in the sense that you can unlock and root whatever ROM you're on, whether it's the oldest or the most recent ROM. However once you're rooted, you'll not be able to receive OTA (Over The Air) updates until you go back to stock.

This is not correct. It's the other way around, you must gain root access before you can change the state of a bootloader.

A unlocked bootloader and root are 2 different things, You need a unlocked bootloader and a custom recovery before you can gain root.
