What do you think of using a HTC One V without wireless service as a PDA replacement? I have the opportunity to grab a NIB unit for a decent price and wondered if this might be a good gift for someone who doesn't have a smart phone. They're not a technophobe but are on a tight budget, so I don't think they would pay for a data plan. Cost is also why they haven't replaced the dead PDA yet. I can get a new Virgin Mobile One V for less than half the price of a PDA (or even the cheapest Nexus 7.)

Sure, then if they decide to explore it they can get more comfortable with Smartphones.
It's not a great device but for a beginner it'll definitely get the job done.

Introduce them to Google Voice and it can be a wifi phone with unlimited minutes & unlimited text any where there is a wifi signal.

Thanks for the advice. Still in the learning curve but so far so good. It probably helps they have Gmail and are open to using Google Calendar, etc.
