I don't see HTC baiting Apple into anything with the phone line they are relying on to jump start slumping sales for a company that has seen a declining market share lately. HTC wants this phone on the market just as much if not more than all the people that pre ordered it. Any kind of stall tactic by HTC would be like cutting off your nose to spite your face.

Re: AT&T HTC One X shipments indefinitely delayed
I didn't ignore it. It just didn't tell me anything I haven't heard a hundred times before.
You tell me how Apple pieced together existing ideas, none of which they came up with first, and made it work just like those existing ideas already worked. I understand that. I think that's insane. Patent # 5,946,647 covers the detection of certain data, e. g. email addresses and phone numbers, in text on the screen and presenting options for dealing with it. This is not a new idea. Doing it on the Newton, after it had been done on PC's, does not make it a new idea. Making it pretty does not make it a new idea.
Taking something that already exists and editing it is basis for getting a patent. Until that changes, innovation is artificially slowed. This is what I have a problem with. Had the multi-touch patents stood in court, I'd be fine with it. Obtain proper licensing fees and move on. The "coverflow" style gallery is another good example. Apple did that first. Anyone who uses it should pay for the opportunity to use it. Patents like these OTOH, an aggregate of existing methods to parse data, should never be granted.
I've filed for, and have been granted, several patents on behalf of my prior employer (electronic sizing and sorting related). I understand the review process, and it's shortcoming is that it's far to easy to have one granted. Blindly trusting the judgement of the USPTO, as you stated you will do, only furthers the issues.(•‿•) - 05-20-2012, 03:33 PM #59

Re: AT&T HTC One X shipments indefinitely delayed
All HTC or google has to do is make the context menu appear after a touch and hold action instead of tap, I don't get why that is so hard.

Re: AT&T HTC One X shipments indefinitely delayed
Well, to each his own i suppose. I'd much rather get worked up about a monkey **** phone than global warming or terrorism. AT least i can do something about that, global warming, world peace, not so much...
But i am with you, i'll go with whoever can provide the best experience, no brand loyalty here, & i won't critisize anyone for their choices, either - (unless u opt for the "super **** ugly EVO 4G LTE"... lol j/k: )

Thread cleaned, Droid800 was banned, and it was based on a much longer history than just this thread. Carry on.

Re: AT&T HTC One X shipments indefinitely delayed
I just ordered a One X from Ebay. I hope it's brand new like the seller says. I've sold phones on Ebay but never bought one. I hadn't known about this lawsuit with Apple until recently and wondered why the phones were sold out so fast.

Re: AT&T HTC One X shipments indefinitely delayed
Here's an interesting strategic thought and process, that others are hinting on:
--Release/announce phone in US (HTC One X, E4GLTE)
--Send phones through customs early, expecting a hold/delay due to ITC ruling
--Either the hold runs slightly long, or you time the announcement of the ITC hold so you can point a finger back at Apple, saying "We won't make our release date because those jerks won a lawsuit."
--The push through Customs magically happens quickly, because it was already in progress when it was announced. HTC saves face and looks like the good guy.
--Who loses? In the public eye, Apple. and Customs. Privately, you, but you've taken less of a hit than being completely transparent and pushing back the launch.
Or, a fork: Sprint forces HTC's hand with pre-orders and optimistic estimates of the Customs hold. When that doesn't pan out, they're forced to backtrack. So Sprint fudged it up for everyone (surprise).
I'm willing to bet good money HTC knew its products would face a hold at the border, and is playing it out strategically. These things don't happen all of a sudden. - 05-21-2012, 07:21 PM #69
Re: AT&T HTC One X shipments indefinitely delayed
Actually the Amazon $119.99 deal is for all types whether new or upgrades. What will be interesting is to see if the price drops further when the GS3 is released to be more competitive. I cannot imagine the price on the GS3 being under $199, even at the beginning at Amazon.

Good luck with that. You won't change anyone's mind about scope of Apple's involvement. Because HTC lost to Apple, most will simply assume Apple had some sort of pull with US Customs and the USITC to block the HTC devices.

Question is......Are the first waves of One X and One S,s that made it thru before
the lock down at customs the super phones? Since all the others have been sabotaged/Appletaged.

Re: AT&T HTC One X shipments indefinitely delayed
I was lucky that there was one left at my ATT store. The lady even tried to sell it to me before I decided to get the Lumia 900. That was a huge mistake so I came right back in the next day and picked it up.

Re: AT&T HTC One X shipments indefinitely delayed
I'm hoping they come back in stock quickly. I have the white One X, and the thing picks up stains so quickly that it's just unbearable.
I want to exchange it for a black one before my 30 days is up next week.
by the way - no 32GB version available on ATT? - 05-23-2012, 12:03 PM #75
