HTC One X. - Completely randomly an icon has appeared in the status bar (See attached screenshot). It looks like some sort of tag (is on next to phone on vibrate status icon a in status bar).

Have no idea what it is linked to. Have tried the usual's, run virus check (AVG), Rebooted/turned off phone, uninstalled newly installed apps within last few days.

It seems to be something running in the background or is some sort of notification, but have no idea what it is or how to get rid of it!

Any help would be great.

Looks like that is an icon/tag for NFC (Near Field Communications) which is supported by the HTC One.

Any reason why it has appeared? Do you know what it does or what NFC is?

Near Field Communications is a way for your device to communicate with other NFC compliant devices and in stores to pay for items like example at McDonalds, etc. using software and a credit card linked to your device.

It could of popped up the notification because you came in contact with another NFC supporting device.

Check under your Settings/Wireless & Networks/NFC .. You can toggle it on/off there.
