You can use your phone AND the garmin is much better.

You will need an in car power supply. You need a window mount such as the one featured on the blog page today.

Its very tricky when you get out west in the US. If you run out of cell data range, easy to do out here, you have
to start your navigation before you leave cell coverage and you cant change your route till you get back to cell coverage.
Calls can conflict with navigation.

Other than that they work very well.

Having had a garmin for years, I can tell you they are much better, even calling lane changes, showing images
of interstate exits etc.

ive been using Sygic navigation this past week and I have to say, it works pretty well. also, no data connection is required as all the maps are downloaded to your phone. It is important to have a car charger though because it drains the battery rather quickly.
