Default Low volume until phone is restarted, AT&T Version

Recently got a AT&T One X and volume seemed great for a couple days then everything seemed to get quieter even though all volume was maxed out, decided to restart phone one day and volume got louder then it was before and is as loud or a little louder then my HTC Inspire 4G was but after a couple days the volume goes quieter again and the only way to fix it is to restart the phone.

Has anyone else experinced this problem? Is it a software issue?

Holy cow, it's like you read my mind!

Used it for about a month with no issues. Went on a road trip this weekend and used google nav a lot. I couldn't even hear the voice navigation over the car air conditioner! I checked all volume settings which were maxed out. I was sure I had used navigation before and had no trouble hearing it in my car.

Fast forward to today, when I rebooted, and LOW AND BEHOLD, the volume is back up where it should be.

I thought I was going crazy, but I see now it wasn't just me!

To the person saying to exchange it because it on gets worse. Is that from personal experience? I would think that since a reboot fixed the issue that it's software related rather than hardware related.

Is this happening to anyone else? As I said, I've had the phone over a month and this is the first time I noticed it.

My first thought as well is that I was going crazy, glad to see someone else posted with the same problem. I'm also thinking it's a software issue.

Wow... Crazy this happened to me this morning & I listen to iHeartRadio every morning. Restarted and it increased but not much.

Have not had this happen on my One X yet, but I have seen that behavior on my Nexus and Captivate before that. I could tell immediately when it happened, and it was always right after the volume was attenuated for a voice over., or notification sound. Usually from Navigate.

For example, rocking out to Pandora in the car. Nav pipes up with a direction, muting the audio. When Nav is done talking and brings the audio back, the volume level is less than half what it should be even though the sliders are maxed. For Pandora, I would just have to kill the app and restart the app, and it would work again.

Are you guys seeing this after a notification sound during music playback? Or just noticing it randomly, presumably NOT at the time the volume change occurs?

I have seen this same problem with my windows phone, a Samsung focus s.

What happens with me is that i use external speakers that plug into the phone through the headphone jack.

When i remove the plug for the speakers, my volume levels seem to have diminished. I check settings and all volume levels are full, but the output sounds muffled.

I then restart my phone and the volume levels go back to what are apparently normal.

Must be at the hardware level for me, but the focus s uses a similar hardware base as the galaxy s and sII series.

I had the same problem. Volume became very low after att update was pushed out. I had to hard reset my phone and the volume came back.

I've noticed it randomly and decided to play music again today and had the low volume again, restarted the phone and the volume was noticeably louder.

I'm not sure what to do, I'm within my 30 days from purchase and upgrade and this is the only problem I've had so far and if I exchange for another one I could have the same problem or any of the other issues.

It couldn't hurt getting a call on file with ATT in case it keeps happening. Probably a software or app thing, so probably fixable. But getting a call in just in case, and for notifying that it is a problem, would be a good safe bet.

Long time lurker, first time poster...

I'm a recent Verizon Defector (Last Week) coming from a Razr Maxx & Galaxy Nexus. For whatever reason, my Data and Voice with Verizon would drop off the network several times a hour...With multiple different phones, Verizon said "Their Network is Fine" but needless to say my service wasn't....

Anyway, just to relate to the volume issue with the HTC One X, I also discovered doing a hard reboot (Holding down power button till completely off) resets the volume. On my phone, the difference is quite noticeable.

Other than this little quirk, I love the phone and more importantly I am impressed with AT&T. Even without true LTE 4G here in Fresno, CA, my download and upload speeds are greater than the LTE 4G I had on Verizon....After 12 years, I am glad I made the jump....

Catch you all later....Hope to be a regular here...I am out...!

I spoke with AT&T and we did another factory reset and nothing else. My music is important to me so Im jumping ship and getting the Galaxy III. I see theres phone aren't like my iPhone and I'm definitely gonna need more memory. Google play is cool & I like the idea of having my music in the clouds but if i have poor connection speeds it is no use to me.

Look for devices with a sd card slot. You can use up to 64gb cards on some of the newer devices, and even with music that is stored at a high bit rate, that's an awful lot of songs.

With music as a top priority, you will be happy with the s3. All the galaxy phones have great sound. One of their strengths.

Ive been having this same issue and its really irritating me. I went into the ATT store for "device malfunction and exchanges" when your past your 30 days but within manufacturer warranty and the guy said "works fine for me doesnt seem to be an issue." Of course it works I restart it every morning so I can hear my notifications.

That's my rant. So ya I have the same issue with no apparent fix.

Mine keeps doing the same as well.. I heard the Atrix Hd speakers are awesome. Plus hdmi and sd card slot. Might be jumping ship. I'll sacrifice picture quality with a camera for a better speaker any day.

Well I just did the latest update yesterday. To me I haven't seen a difference yet. But then again it's only been a day. I'll give it a week and see how it goes. I just wish it was louder. My stepdaughters pantech burst is louder than my htc 1 x. And I only paid 20 bucks for her phone. Lol

I had this issue with mine and exchanged it with a new one that did the same thing. Flashed a new ROM and issues are resolved. Obviously not a solution for everyone but just saying, its an AT&T software problem.

I use my phone a lot in the car. I only have speaker issues if my ringer is some when I stream or play music. If I turn the ringer off while listening to music, I do not have any issues with the volume. All of my blackberries did the same thing, so it wasn't a big deal to me. I just flip it to vibrate so I know when I get a message.

It's definitely noticeable though. I've had my OneX for a while and the volume when on a call is really too soft for me. You really shouldn't have to turn the volume up all the way just to hear it at a comfortable level. I wish there was another solution. Volume+ didn't work for me at all.
